Hi, will I be able to pick up a marine diesel engine filter in Halfords or somewhere for a temporary fix? It's a Perkins 4429491 or equivalent for a Volvo MD 2020?
Ta!

PLENTY filters to fit it.

Se the cross ref. here:
Fuel filter cross reference
What a useful reply (y)

Except that the MD2020 would have 2 filters one a CAV filter and one, a spin on filter, on the engine itself

Given the cost of filters I'm amazed people don't carry a 'set' of spares, + spare impeller. When you service the engine you know you will need 3 filters why not simply buy 6.

As you are buying one, why not buy 2?

edit: Not forgetting the oil filter and air filter...

The CAV type filters are very cheap in packs or 6 or 10 from agri suppliers.
A few of us locally sometimes combine an order to save P&P and get a 'family pack' price.

One Sunday morning a few winters ago I was sitting in the cockpit whilst the boat was ashore....

Somebody walking down the nearby road shouted something.. he held up an old fuel filter and asked if I knew of anywhere he might get one on a Sunday morning..

I looked in my spares box and sold him one for cash. It didn't fit my engine anyway but was there in the spares box when I bought the boat..

A win-win situation and shows that perhaps all you need to do is to ask someone in the yard.

Your post/profile doesn't seem to say where you are.. If it did, one of us might be nearby and have a spare to hand.

The trouble is, if you buy double what you need every time you order, you end up with more impellers than you know what to do with (and more filters in yet another tub hidden away)..

Thanks all. I did manage to pick one up in the end. Alas the blockage seems to be right back in the tank... My fault for running an old tank too low... On the bright side, I now know how to sail onto my mooring.

You could also double up on the first order and then, maybe, order one at a time thereafter. I think then you always have one spare.....

- unless you are man of taste and have a catamaran with 2 engines. :)

The OP's original request seemed 'strange'.

Its interesting the differences in retail availability of such items, on a Sunday, Oz vs UK

Within about 10km we have 3 retail outlets that will be open all day on a Sunday holding stocks of all the common oil and fuel filters. Our local chandler, 5km away, holds stock of impellers and is also open on a Sunday.
