What is the current market like compared to previous years.?
Appreciate their are seasonal shifts increase start season drop off at end season.
Just wanted to see what those who have been motor boaters for a long time think.
Also what would be an average insurance cost for a 25-30 year old 35-45ft mb on a coastal marina, say used market value around £100K be?

Following the easing of ‘lockdown’ the boat market has gone a bit mad with many boats selling quickly and Brokers looking for stock. I guess that not having the option of the usual foreign holidays has brought new people into boating. Who knows what will happen but my guess is that once the realities of boat ownership kick in we might see a lot of boats back on the market but it is anybodies guess to be honest.

Prices have, perhaps, hardened a little as a consequence and there have been tales of Brokers suggesting that sellers add 10% to the price but I think that it is more common for people to be getting their asking price or near to it andI know people who have missed out because they spent time pushing for a deal thereby allowing another buyer to get in with a better offer.
.

I was speaking to someone earlier this week who sold their 2 year old boat for more than the current list of a new boat... This is in the circa £ 130K bracket..

I know i could have sold mine 3 times over since we bought in May but then i would be boatless and wheres the fun in that!

Speaking to some dealers they are very short on stock so i would say its a sellers market right now but as always, it depends on the boat and the target market..

I tend to agree, I perceive there has been a surge in new people to boat market (some may / may not) have fully considered annual costs involved which could have impacts later. I very much doubt I will be buying until next year anyhow, just wanted to gauge so if good offer for type / model boat comes along I wouldn't want to miss now and lament in few months of why I didn't pull the trigger.

There has been a fair few of newbie “ which boat “ threads on here lately.....barometer?

The cohort of boats number compared to the 70 million population is so tiny that it only needs a tiny % more of the 70 M to wake up and suddenly want a boat ....after watching the news :) = hey presto

Portofino - good point on population percentile increase re actual boat market depth (maybe marina investment should be part of my pension portfolio lol)

Will take my time actually getting on the water though, get the right boat and save up more if I need too for it. Cost of actual ownership has to be serious factor as its essentially like owning second home that you can never pay the mortgage off (even when you pay cash for boat)

From speaking to various people in various businesses there has been quite a few purchases using the Covid loans , Easy money and low interest rate.
All the predictions are for a crash in sales in the 4th Quarter of this year,

Only had my boat since March and I’ve been contacted twice asking if I would be interested in selling and a broker has asked if he can put it on their web site for far more than I paid and he thinks they will sell it due to low stock of boats under 1M in the med......but what do you replace them with ?

I’ve sold a few cars in the past for good profit but always thought I should have kept them a bit longer.

In Eire... Sellers market
Disagree, reasonably priced and fairly valued motor boats selling like hotcakes. However there is some serious piss taking with people asking laughable prices for outrageously valued boats which arent moving.
You couldent give away yachts currently.

East coast definitely a sellers market. Having spoken to the broker on site he has told me that as a result of fewer people going overseas they are buying up boats as second homes and somewhere to spend holiday time. Many newer faces at our marina for sure. Wonder how many will be selling once the reality of the costs of owning a boat becomes apparent. What's more concerning to me is that most of these these so called 'captains' don't have a clue and are probably coming to a marina near you soon.

Yup, get some addional fenders

Thats why next year might be best time for me, sellers opting for their hols back abroad and time to get all PB training done. Last time driving boat was when I took a Norfolk Broads holiday in the late 80s and after 4 days couldn't understand why boat was listing (aye top up water tank lol)

When you say 'all predictions', can you actually point us at any of these predictions, or are you just guessing wildly? :D

Sellers... I was looking up to the point of lockdown and couldn't quite decide. Now, anything that appears decent at a sensible price is just gone. I've given up looking; the market will change at some point. I have access to a little peche promenade to keep the boating bug at bay, so can bide my time for now.
