Bunting?

I will be required to decorate my boat with bunting in a couple of weeks time.

What are the rules of Bunting? Do I need to spell anything out or are random flags the order of the day? Is there any detailed etiquette I need to be aware of? Is there someone in the Chichester area willing to lend me some bunting?

I have an 8yo who delights in language he's not allowed to use.

EDIT: @KevinV you've just sent my youngest into orbit. I've found a chart of flags and I can see him tracing with a finger and hear him panting "F" .... "U" ..... I'm positive I didn't know that word when I was 8.

I too was looking for bunting. However, it's very expensive. And you need a lot even for a little boat

There is a RYA-recommended order of display that most people follow. I have taken delight in using a different one from my 1940s copy of The Yachtsman’s Weekend Book. Thus far, no-one seems to have taken offence.

We gave a friend some bunting, after rearranging the flags. He wasn’t terribly nautical and never quite caught on to the passing comments and odd looks.
