Bukh reluctant to stop

Sounds like the stop solenoid. Usually a firm technical tap with a hammer will get them moving if they're jamming due to a bit of gunk until you get a chance to replace or service it. If its unreachable though you will have to pull it out and see if it can be serviced or indeed just replace it. If the engine was running on due to burning lub oil you would expect a lot of blue smoke and the sickly acrid smell of burnt lub.

Cliff has it right other than a wiring fault.
The solenoid screw turns setting is crucial in stopping the engine properly. Ring 'norm of Bukh UK as from memory on the 24 its thirteen turns in.
Ring Norm anyway as there seems to nothing he doesn't know about the bukh engine which I find refreshing to know.
