I have just changed my engine from a Bukh DV20 to a DV24. I am using the original control panel. When i turn ignition on is the Alt & Oil lights meant to illuminate whilst the temp one stays off? As when i turn key on no lights illuminate even although all wires are connected up correct as per the wiring diagram.

- Could it be something to do with the distribution panel on the control panel?

The control panel is the one with below.

Bukh Ignition Control Panel

Any help would be great.

Yes, just checked our identical installation.

Ignition on. The top two lights come on, the temperature doesn't.

They both go off if all is well after starting.

The temperature only shows when it overheats.

Think you need to double check the wiring. With a DV20 panel it's probably the DV20 wiring diagram that's applicable.

There will be a difference eg the DV24 panel has a start button.

This may or may not be relevant to your problem. I have a vague recollection that the diodes or some other components on the little circuit board (mounted behind the switch panel, and not one of Bukh's most reliable parts) were different, or at least of a different value, on later models (because of different alternators, perhaps?). I seem to recall, though, that was to prevent false partial sounding of the alarms related to the lights, rather than affecting the lights themselves.

Perhaps someone can clarify this/jog my memory.

Would you be able to take a photo of the rear of the control panel for the wiring please.

that’s would be very much appreciated.

Hi Fixer.

Bit of spaghetti behind the panel but I've taken 2 or 3 pics which might help.

Private Message me an email address to send to.

I haven't ever worked out how to display them here...

Hi

Did you sort this out in the end? I have the same issue.

Mi have just replaced the alarm and lights in my panel from and old one. The alarm sounds when I turn the ignition but the lights do not come on.

Thanks

Didn't have an issue then. The lights were working correctly. That was the point of my post.

It's the original poster the Fixer who had the problem.

As an aside, the correct operation of the oil pressure warning system is very important if you still have a turn key start and stop switch. It warns you you're cooking the stop solenoid if you've left the switch too long in the stop position.
