Build Quality - Hallberg Rassy

can't question the build quality but wouldn't touch these with a barge pole after 3 years thrashing by the forces....and at that price VAT excluded. I think they're in CCL!

Interesting link - are there any more such fleets around supported by the taxpayer?
I believe that the BKYC fleet of yachts is not publically funded, however most of the charter fees probably come from the defense budget.

Although they will have been well used they should have been well maintained. The asking price is considerable discount on current list price.

BKYC

I looked very seriously at an ex BKYC Najad 33 three years ago. Tiller steering, no nonsense fit out, proper safety gear, and while it was undoubtedly well used, much better maintained and looked after than most ex charter boats. A better buy than anything else we saw three years old, only put off by the conservative Najad rig etc. No scuffs,no frills, immaculate inside and out. These boats may be sailed often but to describe them as 'thrashed' is nonsense, you should look at them before making this judgment. A couple of K will replace the rigging. What is wrong with sailing a boat, it can come to more harm sitting full of condensation banging against a marina pontoon. The original spec is high but basic but if you go to look for a boat of this size second hand it is now very difficult to find one with a tiller, private buyers now have to have a wheel on a thirty footer.
I do question why they need to change the whole fleet every three years but I imagine that they get a good deal on a fleet of 10 or so and depreciation is still low, the exchange rate makes the price for the HRs seems high for the UK so I suspect they will stay in Euroland. However it must be good that these quality boats are released on to the second hand market so regularly.

@120000 Euros + VAT (£127000 all in currently), you won't find a cheaper HR342 anywhere. Even 2000 year HR34 will cost that. They are well maintained, stored ashore in heated hanger through winter, I wouldn't hesitate but have just bought HR34 in the week before they were advertised for sale.
