Buckingham 20 restoration, formerly Plant Pot

That ‘True Love’ looks a good project!! (for you obviously, it would kill me, literally:()
£5000 is way too much, but if the owner lets you work on it in situ, then there would be a lot savings to be made from not having to transport it home. So that has got to be a starting point for negotiations.
But getting rid of Khashoggi:confused: don’t forget the feeling you got from being on the water. You don’t want to loose that;)

Well done mate, been quite a journey but totally enjoyable. Looking forward to your next project.:encouragement:

(Hope the arm heals quick too)

Thanks MrB, beena good trip and not slept all night.

Morning fella.

It comes with a mooring and shed etc sonot off the water and the engine needs a service which is nothing, even a reuild i could do if it is Perkins, nothing more simple with engines. So a lot of bonuses and only an hour from home and it this one floats lol.

I have hardly slept last night. I am going to go and look it over asap and see what interest i can get in Khashoggi.

Is there any reason you didn't use the houdini hatches you bought some time ago?

If you do plan on selling Khashoggi to fund the Fisher 37 (it looks very interesting!), do you reckon you'll recover the money you've spent on her? Have you kept a record of all your costs? Not asking you to tell us what you've spent, just interested if you know what she stands you. Obviously your time costs would be enormous, and almost incalcuable.

I'd love to see any pics you take of True Love, they're solidly built boats, and from the outside she looks in reasonable nick. If its currently going for £5K then I guess you're likely to be able to get her for about half that figure, which could be a steal! All depends on what you find when you look at her. Fingers crossed there's not too much major work involved.

Apparently she comes with the mooring, dock and little shed. So these obviously have a value before calculating the value of the boat.
Also, while the plywood is shot, the rest of the boat looks good (as far as can be seen from the photos). I think the best thing is to wait for Wayne’s visit on Friday and see what his assessment is.
Mind you, it is a yacht :disgust:

Congrats on an epic build, you must have a great sense of satisfaction to finally sit inside her on the water.

Anders

Hi Anders, oh yes, lay there at night buzzing and sitting having a drink on the mooring after i clean it down. which will last a while yet i bet.

Thats what a lot of folk dont get, there are lots of folk that can afford to go out and spend crazy amounts of money on boats which i will never have or be able to save for but this way i can get to what i want how i want it, And have more pride in it when its done. I am not saying that folk that can afford to go and buy a boat outright dont take pride in there boats. The feeling i get is different as i built it.

Ah the darn Houdini, that was in the top three areas that did my head in, i actually went through four Houdini`s, all leaked, should of bought a new one in the first place or a better one. I attempted to reseal two of them but to fail, not an easy task. Dont like to fail so that annoyed me. I used Creeping Crack which did work for a short time, so when it leaked again it is when i made my one from the Houdini lower frame.

Well then cost of Khashoggi, when i started off i was keeping a log of everything i bought. After a while i gave up as i wasnt bothered. Although folk do ask a lot. I did a rough workings out and over the four years inc tools it would be around £6k. I spent all my spare money on it, minus Cider funds and odd take out though lol.

So accurately it is hard to say but i am sure i could sell it for around what it cost to build material wise, as you say, you dont get back for the time you put in. But when do you get paid for a hobby, not often. If you were to go out and buy a Buckingham 20 not restored and as is from how it started life they sell for around £4.5k for a good one.

Yes but saying i own a `Yacht` sounds good :):) It does have an engine though fella, i can stick a juicy V8 in it lol.

I agree on the mooring and its value in the cost. If i was to buy another project in better order, not that we yet know what this one is like fully, then it will easy cost around a grand plus to get it somewhere, thats without finding a mooring/standing for it. There is hard standing near buy if i need it for prop work etc.

Lets see what happens, i will get plenty of pics ;)

Just a side note, this has come back for sale i think, do love the Nelson`s aswell. It has been sold a few times over the years. I actually bid on it maybe 2 years ago. missed out on it at £700.

Now at £51

Well, of course a Nelson 34 is a proper boat! If the hull has been worked on already and it only needs fitting out then I guess it’s doable for someone with your skills and propensity for hard work. Does it have an engine?

Well don't buy that Fisher then cos it has one. :)
Bit late but congrats on finishing Khashoggi, I knew you would get there.

All it has is the prop shaft tubes and bronze prop shaft hangers. last owner cleaned it out done a few repairs and painted it ready for engines to go in and fit out.

Defo doable for me, it now worse infact better than when i started with Khashoggi, it has windows. I do like thee with a central helm and rear deck with two cabins.

Never noticed the Houdini on the Fisher, sod that then not having it lol.

Thanks ;)

A boat to get excited about

Mind you I would still check out those moorings to see if any were available

Now your not making it easy for me. Amazing boat they are.

You mean the mooring with the Fisher ? Teer are a few available i believe in that area. but will be checked on when i go.

Just emailed about the Nelson to see if it still available, some times there still on sale but not removed arnt they.

Wayne, before committing to the nelson go on coastal rides or boats and outboards and figure the cost of 2 matching engines and gearboxes. Then get a price for propshafts. If it has't got P brackets and rudders, those too. And propellers. All have to match. You'd be doing well to get it all for £20k.
£10k and you're doing miracles.
All I'm saying is the nelson is a different world of cost compared with the plant pot. It will eat money even with your skills.

So then, as some may know i have got my new project, its in the Project OBD ( Norman 32 )

Therefore even though there is still bits and bobs to do on Khashoggi i will be concentrating on the new OBD blog. If anything gets exciting i will stick it on here though..

Well then i hope you all enjoyed the blog as much as i did doing it and building Khashoggi. Thanks for following and hope it inspired folk to crack on with there at times of need, which i bet there was.

And a massive thank you to all those that helped me out with advice and donations towards the project. Materials and goodies. And what sewing machine to buy and found one for me. Thanks guys ;):)

Happy boating y`all

Admiral Faffer :):)
