Brugge instead of Oostende

is the location of the bbq accessible ie near the town?

Assuming BBQ is at BZYC it is walkable from town - but its about 30 minutes. If you go for a taxi you need to be specific as there us another 'YC' on the south side of town as well!

We berthed at BZYC in HMS Trumpeter in early April - not a lot there as they were still fitting out the boats, the day we sailed a big crane arrived to lift the boats in. YC Commodore did say if we came back again he would get in 20 bikes for us to use. I guess out of season a 20m boat on his pontoon for 2days is a nice little earner!

Apologies as all the charts are on the boat.......

But (roughly) from Bradwell how many NM's is it to Ostend? what is the "usual" journey time? (I know there are a lot of varibles - but an average time would be great).

Many thanks in advance

Ian and Sarah

I've done it from/to Bradwell a few times. Usually 15 -17 hours. Leave with tide - going up the East Swin out to Long Sand Head you can do 7 knots for the first 30nm which is a good start. I like to leave very early morning (2 or 3) if the tide suits - it gets light up the East Swin and then the rest is in daylight and you arrive at beer o'clock :)

The Railway station is to the South west of the town center.
The BBQ is at the Brugge Zail & Yacht Club.
That is on the East bank of the canal from Zeebrugge to the north of the town.
About 2.5 miles from the station.
The best way maybe to get a taxi from the station.

The address is
Louis Coiseaukaai 11tris
8000 Brugge

This was an attempt to merely state a plan to make the most of the tidal flow coming out of Harwich after dark.
No joke or holy grail moment honestly. I just hope for civilised TSS crossings.

i go either side of the cork dependent on perceived advantage.
see you in the RNSYC

Oky Doky.
Last trip to Oostende I left later on the ebb and made LongSandHead via SCorkSth Cardinal/NE Gunfleet ECardinal. I was planning this time to go out via the Cork SNd YchtBcn as per the pilot.
Not sure if one is better than the other! Leaving later ie Harwich HW+4 will mean less time underway until sun rise so that may be the clincher. A midnight departure as opposed to 2200. Decisions, decisions.
I wont deliberate as much once at the bar at RNSYC - Duvel everytime!

Its all gone Pete Tong. I was so looking forward to this but Fatherly duties have now beckoned me elsewhere. This was to be my first ECF cruise so I shall have to make extra effort next time.

I have a fairly experienced crew member that still wants to sail if anone needs help or has room. He did the trip to Ostend with me last year!

CliveG - Sirenia - 25' o/a - 3 crew - BBQ by us
Wunja - Wunja - 27' - 2 crew - ECF BBQ
Slow Boat - Maybe???
Amoret 2 or 3 crew + ECbernie
ChattingLil - Black Magic - 29' - 4 crew ONLY A MAYBE???

Lookinga bit thinner now:(
3 to 5 boats and 8 to 14 crew at the moment.

Lisa just dropped out of the Ostend rally so don't think Black Magic will be comming to Brugge. Looks like light Westerlies Thursday night Friday at the moment, just filled the fuel tank up:eek: We are a definite ECB, Photodog, Caroline and me.

Just a quickie - are there any others crossing Fri evening? Seems Spotty Dog and Charisma will have the Nth Sea to ourselves......! (if only)
If any one else feels the urge we would be glad to have others join the pilgrimmage to the land of Duvel, moules and frites. Beats a Friday night battling the M25!
