Does anyone know the sort of prices and good marinas from L'aberwrach down to say La Rochelle?
I'm looking for good anchorages too along the way, if anyone can help.
Thanks
Rob

Size of boat will affect price obviously, what ya got?
the list is very very long between those points and the anchorages many, how long are you going for?
Inside the Rade de Brest anchorages abound you could spend months exploring in there.
Anchor off the beach outside Camaret, marinas quite reasonably priced. That's just for starters I haven't got all day, there is a pilotage book covering that area that will give all the info you need expect the current marina prices

As well as Pete's observations, lots of places have trots of moorings rented out on a nightly basis. Prices vary, but invariably cheaper than marina prices, and often located where anchoring is tricky (partly because of moorings taking up all the room...)

10m x 3.5 x 1.9m

Just wondered if anyone has by the off chance a quick knowledge of the rough pricing.

It's been a few years but it's going to be €20+ per night in any of the bigger in fact all the marinas you can anchor virtually on a daysail basis all the way down if you so choose as pete said.

Same size as my boat, 10m. For the last four years we have paid an average of 30 euros per night in June, July and August. Cheaper for longer stays and outside of the mid-summer months. Price does not vary much. We sail from Portsmouth to South Brittany and back, normally taking about four months.

Reeds quotes prices for marinas on a per metre basis. As has been said, there are enough anchorages to go all the way by daysailing and anchoring in most conditions. Just off the top of my head: L'Aberwrac'h - anchor off Camaret - Iles Glenans (athough in between there are anchorages in Baie Douarnenez and off Lesconil) - Belle Ile (anchor) - Ile de Yeu (anchor) - La Rochelle. It depends whether your priority is covering the miles or exploring the areas.

I was contemplating putting in the miles to La Rochelle then meander back over a few months, getting back in the UK for early to mid september.

Chances are you will be on the wind beating back:eek: so best plan on short hops. Plenty of anchorages though.

Get a 4 month contract including 2 summer months in Arzal (the cheapest marina in the area) and you you can get a Passeport Escale:

https://www.passeportescales.com/fr/

which will give you free marina access almost everywhere between La Rochelle and Cherbourg (Max 2 nights consecutive stay). Total cost of contract + passeport is ~1000 Euro = 10E/ night over 4 months.

There are nearly 200 ports now in the scheme including about 20 in the UK.

Unlimited stays.

Is that unique to Arzal?

Our Passeport costs us €20 and gives us a TOTAL of 5 nights free in the participating ports with a maximum stay of 2 nights in whichever you chose.

At "€30" a night we save €130 over the season.

No, I'm afraid my claim is not entirely accurate but does apply to 17 Ports du Morbihan harbours which do offer unlimited stays but others* are limited to 5 nights/year, though per port, not in total. I also made the assumption that the OP would be cruising so 5 nights in any single destination would suffice. Lackadaisical of me, really.
Last year I used my Passeport for 48 nights, €1440 by your calculations, at an upfront cost of €300, which I think more accurately reflects the savings available for an extended cruise in the area.
€20 per year for a Passeport seems extraordinary value - are you based well away from participating marinas?
BTW, thanks for the € symbol which I could copy and paste, another thing I was too lazy to do properly.

*Some ports are paired, e.g. Piriac and Le Pouliguen so the 5 nights are spread across both.

I'm based in North Brittany in one of the participating ports. It sounds like the Morbihan scheme is totally different if you are paying €300 for unlimited stays. 10 nights away and you are breaking even ... good scheme.

A friend of mine resident in a port close by pays the same €20 but gets a few more free nights as he is friends with the HM.

PS Our scheme is definitely NOT 5 nights per port, just 5 nights in total.

I was disappointed when I established that :)

I was under the impression that it was up to 5 free nights per port (with a max of 2 taken at any time).

Just logged into my passeport account, and that would seem to support my assumption (i.e. it lists the number of nights I have taken in each port out of the 5 permitted), but I've never tested this.

I took my 35 ft yacht from L'Aber Wrach to La Rochelle last summer on the way to Spain,
day cruising and plenty of stops.

We were paying about 20 - 25 euros a night for marinas.

We moored on visitors buoys at;
Morgat, Audierne, River Avien, and Belle Isle, but I don't remember being charged anywhere for moorings.

The whole trip down France took about 3 weeks and didn't need to raft once.

There is a new edition of Secret Anchorages of Brittany, a nice book and worth having though a bit pricy. I have an old first edition available - it has most of the stuff in the later book but the presentation is plain and the colour photos are smaller. See here if you are interested:

Look out for places like L'aberwrach where the swinging moorings are only about 5 euro less than going into the marina. Similar thing at Loctudy; they have sharpshooters in ribs so you get nailed pretty quickly - they must employ some of the old hands from Salcombe. There are handy anchorages in both places if you know about them.

Rule of thumb that I've found for 11m is 30 Euro for a marina and 20 for a mooring, although a lot of the time we haven't been charged anything for a mooring. Maybe they're more keen once the season gets going. Also lots of anchorages along the way

That's my experience: 10 mins in l'Aber Wrac'h in July last year and my friend, rafted onto me at the time, received an unseemly demand for €28 for a buoy which, to my amazement, he paid. After making the mistake of asking, he was told in no uncertain terms that anchoring in the river was forbidden, despite 2 other boats clearly anchored slightly down river of the fairway buoy.
