British summer sailing

Today there even was sun for a few hours. Bit rough out there, so half the Dutch holiday fleet is marooned in Brighton by the looks of it. Talked to one who was already fed up with it and decided to cancel trip to Cowes and head over to the French coast instead. This guy didn't mind:

I was chatting with a mate the other night, and we were discussing this very issue. In olden days, there'd be lots of yachts around; but today, you can sail for miles without seeing another boat.

That's probably why Holland is mostly half empty. They all made the mistake of thinking that Britain still had summers.

I looked at Marine Traffic AIS this morning, approx 20 Dutch boats heading up the Medway.

Nah........

They love coming over for the "British Wave" you know.

I always give them a real hearty one . It's one thing us British do really well.

None at all. The midgies came early this year - end of May, but for the last month there haven't been any really, certainly not bothersome numbers.

There might be a few sheep ticks ashore though! That looks like the nice wee bay at the south end of Lowlandsman Bay on Jura. Always plenty on Jura...

A fine spot. Well the view is remarkably similar. Your photo mid distance looks just like Gigha with Kintyre and Arran behind in the distance from Jura. Even Gigha has a few wind turbines...

I was in Holland for 3 weeks mid june to early july and there was no summer there. Lots of rain nearly every day and wind always from the wrong direction.

We went through Holland from early June and had several glorious days sailing the Ijselmeer and motoring through Friesland before crossing the Arctic Circle.
