Is anyone going? I got my form through the other day and posted it along with my cheque for £40.00. I hope it's worth it. Still, there will be a full weekend of entertainment so I imagine it will. The burgee will be up to show off our colours.

My alternater's on the sick at the moment. I've taken it to be repaired in a place in Cardiff who's name I forget (it's behind B&Q on Hadfield Road) and hopefully it won't cost a fortune and can indeed be fixed. They said a new one would be £250.00. Looks like Bev will have to sell one of her kidneys! It's a high price I know but it's for the boat so what can you do?

Take care all,

Lizzy D

That's a terrible thing to say. You should be able to get a new alternator, leads and a battery for a kidney.

Right, I'm off down West.

We are going, been every year for last 5 years or so, it is the best weekend of the year if the weather is good. Best to go Friday and come back monday or Tuesday......the locks get quite manic.

We will be there too, sent my 40 quid off months ago, We have attended the festival for the last five years but on my old E-boat Race-E-lady. This year should be even better with all the work that has been done arround the docks so might see you in the boaters marqee or better still on board Galipette for a beer. See you there,
Trevor. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

We went up to Bristol a few weeks ago there are more visitors pontoons now than before.

Cant go this year unfortunately as we will be in Brittany on holiday. Fuel strikes and blockading fisherman permitting. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

PS took this at Barry a while ago.

Wonder if we ask we could get all the forum boats together on the same pontoon?
Anyone welcome on Bonny for a beer if you see us on board.
French market is great and also the fireworks.
Goog place to eat is the olive shed (tapas) next to the cranes or the glasshouse (BBQ) on the river or the indian next to @Bristol.
Hide your flags, the theiving gypsies nicked mine while i was sleeping!
Electric fence wire this year for flag lines /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
Actually joking aside i have now got a pir alarm but it might be a pain if there are lots of people about, i might put the remote sensor facing the boat away from pontoon.

I think you may become unpopular when a gull flies past at first light and triggers your system /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Not as bad as the explosion from the mobo next door but one at 6 in the morning. Big gas explosion, sounded like a cannon firing and i was on pontoon pumping dingy up ready for showers etc. right next to it......hangover went instantly while i dragged the lady from v-berth. ALWAYS TURN YOUR GAS OFF

Would like to take Extra Green up to the festival but can't be certain that I will have time. In case I do where do I get the form from, I've searched both the EDF festival site and the BCC harbour site but can't find any information on either about booking a berth for the festival.

As Graham said there are a lot of new berths on the Gloucestershire side in front of the new apartment blocks going up there. We think they are the new visitor berths, not quite as central as Bordeaux Quay but probably a quieter spot.

I went to an open evening at Portishead Cruising Club a few weeks ago and a couple of people said that members there consider it expensive so don't go to the festival, their view was that as boats are the attraction then there shouldn't be a charge. Having never been I wasn't sure if that was a reasonable view. What does anyone else think?

rather than fork out £40 if you may not be able to go anyway we normally just turn up tie up where ever we can then pay normal harbour dues£11 for our 25 ft.

I dont fully agree with being charged extra because of the attractions going on in and around the harbour for two reasons.

Firstly the boats are part of the attraction and secondly theres no admittance fee for the hundreds of thousands of visitors that dont come in boats.

Well we have 5 on board for five nights so divided by 40 quid (for the duration). The other guys are getting hotels ranging from £60 -110 per night!
Honestly it is worth it.

It'll be just Bev and I this year. We wanted to go last year and thought that you just turned up. Then I read somewhere that you need to book to guarantee a berth, so I asked for a form ages ago, but it only just came last week.

I agree with Graham et al, that as the boats ar ethe attraction, then we should be offered a discounted price or some other incentive rather than pay more than the usual fee. After all, with no boats, there wouldn't be much of a festival I don't think. But perhaps I'm just being mean and I shout put my hands in my pockets. Anyway - buyer beware and all that. I know the price on application. It wasn't just sprung on me as I arrived in the lock.

Disappointing to read that people steal from other boats, the illigitimate children!!! I wouldn't steal ten pence. I hate that. It makes you realise that cockpit lockers are a bit of a sitting duck. I think I can lock mine and may have to pop to Hypervalue to invest in some little padlocks.

Take care all, and see you there hopefully.

We tied up to the city harbour wall on the weekend on Tiger II, a sail training yacht. The Skipper said that they had visited the week before, had tied up to the same wall and had boarders when they were sleeping. Some drunken lads came aboard and started playing with the wheel and shouting. People were a bit nervous on board at being woken but one of the lads told them to stop playing around and they moved on. Trouble is that the marina gets full quickly and sometimes you have to moor in undesirable locations which are near the clubs and plubs. We must have seen about 8 hen nights walking past when we were having a drink.

My thought were having my 3 year old on board and i didn't notice until too late.....dreary eyed and hungover etc. this year they have a brand new harpoon to deal with.......guess just students after a few beers.
I honestly don't think they are 'real' crims..... but if i catch one they will enjoy a night in A&E.

Its a problem,i always feel vunerable when tied to a harbour wall and cant sleep until all the pubs chuck out and every one has gone home.

Looks as if there is a lot more boats going from Cardiff this year, I know of 20 who have got in including the regulars and have pontoon places, so maybe those extra moorings in the docks are to accommodate them. As for p--- heads on the boats/pontoon I say safety in numbers, I will be taking my family for the first time this year and I have two young ones under 11years and I want them to fully enjoy the experience and not have to worry about dip sticks like those mentioned.
The barby is on the boat allready and the tank is half full (dont start me on the fuel thing) I have ordered good weather with god as I have been a good boy all year /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
P.S There is a cracking band playing at CYC on the 12th July
