You can anchor at the mouth I am told! It has been said that the best place is close behind to the breakwater where the yachts are on moorings. as the tide enters, the further in you are, the more effected by tidal bumping. Has anyone used beaching Legs, how did they work?

I used legs there once, about 12 years ago. It was flat calm but i wouldn't fancy it if it was bouncy.

No,as its as you say an inlet,but it has a name, its Colne Pill just below Lydney docks, a handy picnic backwater to spend a couple of hours waiting for the tide to turn.

My first thought was St Pierre pill again but there is a big concrete thing missing on the right! Berkeley pill maybe?

Can you dry out in soft mud in Colne Pill?

You should walk to the Pill to see the lay when it has dried out! It is a steep sided Pill so if you just anchor up you would find that your yacht could fall over! You can walk there from Alvington Church I understand. I have only visited there when water was in the Pill.

Will have a look next time I am in that neck of the woods. allways a bit frightened of drying out in unknown mud.could be a shopping trolley or ford escort down there.

Mathern Pill has up to 10ft of mud by the pontoon! Whats not to like?

Well I really fancy giving Colne Pill a go. I noticed a boat in there years ago and have often thought about it. Plan:
Enter (very cautiously) at HW-1.
If there's not much depth, leave at HW.
If depth is good, stay until HW+0.5.
What could possibly go wrong?

Theres enough room to raft up with 3 24ft yachts and room to turn your boat toget out.
