Brilliant (not!)

I find it comical that we failed on several trivial items, including such things as very occasional yellow in the flame on our burners....yet the facts the boat could be full of asbestos, or have a 50p size hole in the hull, seem to not form a part of the BSC test.

Yours fed up...

Emma

Appreciate this is frustrating for you and seems odd but it was explained to me many moons ago when the BSS was first introduced that its primary purpose is to protect others rather than your boat itself. Your boat could have a big hole in the bottom and still get a BSS !

The occasional yellow in the flame suggests a lack of air(oxygen) in the mix which may lead to carbon monoxide being created - NOT good !

As for the asbestos issue (if indeed it is that) I would leave it it as it is and decorate it more to your taste. Its been there over 30 years.

I have to agree with Boatone, paint the pannels on both sides and refit as planned, the paint will seal any fibres that are likely to be released. Did you service the cooker before disposal,
there are air inlets under the burners, just behind the valves that might be dirty from spillages over the years.

Thank you all for the suggestions.

The problem now is material thickness, we're stuggling to find Supaflex, Masterboard or even plain old tiles under 6mm thick. The area they're going in has a wooden lip which is 5mm proud and we don't really want to have to rip all this out and use a thicker trim unless we have to. It's already turned into a bit of a project as it is.

We may have to discount the tiles due to weight...had a measure up tonight and the area around the cooker will need approx 140 x 4" tiles and I'm not sure we can afford to add that much weight - no heavy Seamaster jokes please!

"My Broom has Aluminium"

My Princess has a sort of crinkly aluminium sheet which shields the plywood surrounding the cooker.

I know it may be overkill, but we've been up to Sheffield Insulations this morning in Ruislip and bought some 6mm Supalux....

Hoping to cover that in some sort of formica or metal sheet when it's in place.

Thanks for all the suggestions and pointers, hopefully should get it all installed this weekend if the cooker ever turns up!

Cheers,

Emma
