Thanks to advice in here I had a brilliant first trip across the chanel.

Left on Sunday 21st but diverted to lymington due to whether. Left Tuesday at 8 in very calm see heading past needles and a princess v boat coming the other way. Four hours later and moored up in Cherbourg. A brilliant first crossing and was so chuffed to have completed the journey.
After stocking up on cheap booze, of which none of it made it back to the UK?... Headed the next day to Guernsey though the Alderney race. Checked everything to have the tide and wind heading the same way even though meant going against a slow tide and it was flat through there. A few days in Guernsey before refuelling. Was surprised to have used 435 litres from Chichester to lymington to Cherbourg and finally Guernsey. About 45 litres per hour at a steady cruise speed of 20 knots.

Next stop Jersey for a couple of days. Hired a smart car and we explored the island which was bathed in sunshine. I then decided to show the good lady Alderney and a first time sleeping attached to a swinging mooring. She couldn't believe how different the three islands could have been. On Monday 29th got up at 6:15 am to head back to Chichester and couldn't see anything. Very thick fog. He added out at 10 as it appeared clearer. After 15 minutes it was awful so headed back to wait until later. Enjoyed lunch on the town centre and the left just after 3. A perfect crossing again and arrived back into home berth just before.

What an amazing first proper holiday on a boat. The boat performed superbly never missing a beat. Any hint of a swell or wave was simply pushed aside by the hull. It may not have tons of accommodation, but sitting on the aft sunbed, the stereo on was amazing and it's sea keeping gives total confidence that nothing will stop it. A great boat for first trip abroad.

Sounds great. The "tide and wind heading the same way" part is 10/10 :encouragement:

It's hard to comment on the boat without knowing what it is - sorry if I've missed a recent backstory describing the boat. When you said surprised at the fuel burn did you mean happily or unhappily? 2.25 litres/miles is a great result for a wave basher

I was very pleased with the fuel consumption, expected a lot worse. She is a 1995 sunseeker Comanche 40 with new 250hp mercr Dtronics engines 2006. Good set up

Wow! Then your fuel burn is very good indeed and worthy of celebration. I thought you were going to say it was a lightweight 30 footer with such economy!

Congrats on the trip, sounds like you've now got an appetite for the crossing. We came back on the same Tuesday after a weekend meeting up with friends, (from the forum), 'twas a lovely albeit slightly longer crossing. Did you get to play frogger in the shipping lanes?

Alserney and taking a bouy in Braye is just about the best thing, when the wind is not from the north, and a real antidote to the bars, restaurant and shops of St Helier.

We too circumnavigated Jersey on our trip but on bicycles, needles to say my backside is still to recover :)
Only thing missing from your post is a few pictures ;)

Well done and glad you had such a great trip.

I want to do exactly what you've done next year but will probably see if I can do it in company as SWMBO is still relatively new to all this.

Glad you enjoyed it. Many UK boaters head straight for Guernsey but there is so much more to see on the other islands. I am a little biased but Jersey is rather special. Some of the best beaches I have seen anyway and plenty to do for all ages.

Excellent..and that is amazing fuel burn...
We got a few expected days on Gsy due to a burnt s.charger clutch. If you should get some extra days yourself one trip then it is well worth taking some hours, well two, to walk Herm and at good five hours with rented bikes (7quid) to tour Sark. And then there are some great walks on west side of Gsy.. an outrageous pound bus fare out and find your own exhaustion pick up!
Now you have got to CI you simply have to head south for another hour or two!

Sorry can't find edit, and not to hijack your thread.
We got back a few hours ago but two days ago in Granville we witnessed an amazing white line, razor sharp line of cloud coming in very fast.
Then ..wham..the marina and boats almost moved 500 metres down the coast...incredible power....passed in five minutes but a first for me...
That aside,do get yourself to Granville!

I know that Ancasta are planning a trip for May 2016, I'll put the dates up when they come through. A cruise in company would give you loads of experience and take away the angst in terms of Mariana spaces and breakdowns...
