I think that if Pauline has paid 5 years marina fees and now get's treated in this way it's very poor indeed. The marina management should look after their customers and always remember that repeat business is vital. If Pauline decides she wants to return to the UK I would assume that it won't be in Brighton Marina.
Look at my profile! i'm not a mobo. I just think being ripped of after being a regular customer is typical of the British marina's and it's obvious that the market place is bouyant. (pardon the pun)
As long as people are happy to pay the ridiculous rates they will remain in business. Small operators would be happy just making a small profit and wage but those days are gone and there is no true customer value.
Totally agree......I once asked why we pay such ridiculous high price's for Volvo engine spares.........I was told because we are stupid enough to pay them!!! I guess the same goes for Marina charges. I occasionally help out here at Troon and to be honest I think you will find things up north are a little bit more in favour of the customer......does not seem that way on the south coast.........sorry if you cannot cope with my warped sense of humour!!!!!!
I am a Northerner! and I kept my boat in Newcastle for many years before discovering the delights of the South Devon coast. I do0 not use a marina other for odd weekends away. I have a swinging mooring and I sail to a stict budget.
All that I am saying is that if Pauline has paid marina fees for the past 5 years then she is being treated badly by the operators.
Totally agree but it seems we all must accept such poor service or move on and recieve it else where. You have the right idea, a swinging mooring pure bliss.
I've got it on good authority that if you turn up in Brighton Marina and then go to the Council Offices and say you are "homeless and destitute" and living on your boat then the Council will pay your marina fees!!!
That seems harsh. MDL aren't much better. If you renew your annual contract then sell your boat, MDL re-credit you for your annual berthing costs then re-invoice you at the monthly rate. After 5 1/2 months you've paid the full annual charge. Worse still they expect 4-weeks notice which is quite ridiculous considering they have 500 punters on their waiting list.
