It may not offer too much of a saving when comparing stove top bread recipes but the savings come when cooking casseroles etc and the poached chicken is divine! I use mine three of four times a week.
Which, if we're just talking about bread making, is the same amount of time and gas it takes to bake a loaf of bread using the method I use. I agree there are other uses for Mr D's thermal cooker but buying it to make bread doesn't make economical sense to me.
