Colin and I took TG over to Bradwell to top up with water/diesel and gas. It was a well planned 'passage' timed to arrive at Bradwell Creek just before low water.:p

And it was low today; seemed like a full Spring, not falling away to neaps. We didn't do a survey but it seemed to us that the 'bar' or shallow patch, call it what you like has extended. It took us 3 goes to find where we could plough through. Based on purely mental sums and observations it seemed as though the bar has extended so it starts mid way between the first and second red can and ends just after the third red can. We tried first coming in close to the cans and that run ended in the bow rising a foot! Fortunately we were able to reverse off and tried again near the withies. Not such a dramatic stop but no go none the less. Then tried slap in the middle (our advice anyway) and although TG touched significantly we were able by putting 2k revs on to slowly plough our way through at about half/one knot. Clearly there is a lot of silt there but we did not hit any hard stuff. Rather fun as we cleared the bottom and accelerated away with a massive 2ft under our keel. Coming back out just after the turn of the tide confirmed the centre of the lane as the best - we ploughed again.

Thinking about our last survey, we plotted 0.3m on the 'bar'. Doing a bit of mental sums, TG draws 1.143m and we were clearly dragging 0.2 of a metre through silt. We were 45 minutes before local low water on a mid range tide where I guess we would expect 0.5 to 0.7 of a metre. That suggests the depth of 0.3m is still about right but now extends over a larger patch as per the comparison below.

Caution, these are just thoughts; not a survey. We will try and get over there when there's more water and do a better check.

Once in, things seemed pretty much as per chart. Perhaps Roger or other locals might care to comment - particularly if they think this is wrong!

I have to admit I didn't really note depths entering the marina but the rule I have always found is that if you can get past the red cans, you can get in the creek and the marina. Mind you the port hand side of the entrance (going in) did look very shallow and we kept right over to starboard. I don't think we saw less than 2ft under the keel entering the marina whereas when we were ploughing the depth-o-meter- was pinging away on 0.7m.

I thought we'd offer some local knowledge as we berth at Bradwell.
TG is correct - if you can get down the past the red cans, you WILL make it in to the Marina (assuming you follow the channel).
It's around the second red can where it shallows off.

We made it in last weekend (on a spring) 4 and half hours before high water (and we draw 5ft!!!!!). Once past the shallow spot.... we didn't see less than around 2.5m

We crept up in to Brawell almost 5 hours before high water today.
We did touch as we come down the red cans (but hey... we were taking the micky).

But what i did notice once in the marina, we only had 1.8m as you passed the hammerheads of a and b pontoons.

Came in HW-3.5 yesterday (11/08)

Touched briefly between the 1 & 2nd red can - boat draws 2.1m
