Another of those multiple questions for you metallurgists out there - thanks for the help with the last one.

Mischief's forestay is fixed to the tip of the bowsprit through a ring - I think it's galvanised steel. Trouble is, it's looking a bit worn through; the friction point is now almost half the thickness of the rest of the ring. Can I weld a bit on? Get it galvanised? Or would it be easier to have another made? Or can you buy such things 'off the shelf'?

Any links or suggestions gratefully received,

Tim

Cranse Iron & metallurgy

Speaking of which, I'd rather like to replace Crystal's with a bronze one - I think the one she has at the moment is galvanised. I presume there is nothing to worry about with stainless and bronze connected together?

I really hope not, thinking about it, as all our stainless stays meet the deck with bronze turnbuckles (Mirelle, did you say these are by Merriman?).

Why not gold plate it?

Harrumph! Galvanised iron is quite good enough for some of us, thank you!

Yes, they look like Merrimans to me. Should have an ornate letter "M" on them somewhere. Guard them with your life, as they are no longer made.

Re: Back in the knife drawer, you!!

Actually, I'm going to be painfully honest here - I've spent an awful lot of cash on the old girl recently, none of which is anything that I can really, aesthetically, be proud of. Engine spares kits, Coelan, deck paint... (none of which I can yet apply)... I want something shiny I can gaze at whilst I can't afford to do all the sexy things I want to do. So 25 quid on a Cranse Iron would do me the world of good...

Going back a few years. I can remember Kim delivering an ultimatum to the Liveaboard Link forum 'use it or lose it'

Nothing happened for months but slowly and surely it took off. Now far from me to be sceptical, but is there a bit of spin going on here /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
