Bow Roller Material?

If you have the lewmar extending roller fitting as ref 66840007,8 or 9 the roller is about 80mm wide ,narrow waisted and centre grooved I had a similar event ,hitting an immovable object,in which the anchor shattered the roller and the axle was bent to a U shape.
Needing to get back in order quickly I bought a replacement ,apparently by Lewmar,for about £50 including express delivery from marine Superstore.There are other suppliers of the Lewmar item on the web possibly cheaper.

Why would the Op buy 80mm if the size he needs is 110?

Thanks, but these stemhead fittings weren’t produced in volume. I’m expecting to have to have a roller turned up.

Because he is going to turn the item and needs a margin to mount it in the lathe by the method he envisages.

That’s really kind, thanks. I’ll try and get some accurate dimensions for the chain guide groove over the weekend, a pic, and send you a PM. Width of the roller is about 110mm (but I’ll double check), 100mm diameter and machined for 10mm chain.

Given that most are either acetal, delrin, or a grade of nylon, and there is little difference between them, or just an unidentified plastic, properties and grade unknown - but we do make them in stainless as well from time to time

Just an observation. My anchor roller is brass (maybe bronze) and my mooring strop roller is acetal, which I replaced about 6 years ago and is now showing signs of wear (I have a spare).

Your caution is noted, thanks. The previous roller was probably original AFAIK and thus 28 years old - and this boat has done a LOT of anchoring, cruising in areas where marinas are rarely an option so I live in hope !
