Bouvaan self-steering

As I mentioned in the recent DIY wind vane thread make sure the windvane has two features. First the vane needs the sail and rudder to be sized to the weight of the boat. If it's undersized it won't steer properly and oversized it will oversteer. Second, make sure there is a control for the sensitivity of the rudder, light winds need little rudder movement and strong winds need large rudder movement.

Wil,
That's an interesting find! I'm still pretty sure that I'll go with the Wind Pilot purely because I can (or should be able to) just bolt it onto the stern. Works out at about £2300 including shipping.....
This Bouvaan unit looks quite nicely made in the pictures. I guess that's down to the indivdual builder though....

I have always had a liking for the Navic (and this does look a bit similar) But the original was unusual in that it used a trim tab to 'steer' the pendulum servo vane/foil. Rather than directly twist it from the wind vane. Was popular on smaller boats.

I've acquired a copy of the instructions for this wind-vane gear, in Dutch. Before I trouble to have it translated, does anyone have an opinion on the effectiveness of the kit? :)

I would suggest checking out the windvane forum. Jan Alkema is mates with the designer and Dutch. There is also a thread on this particular bit of kit as well. I'm Ramona on that forum.
