Bournemouth Air Show?

What's the form?

Are there any restrictions on anchoring, do they run an event radio station?

We will be in the area so may give it a whirl.

Henry :)

I shall be there. Plan to go a bit further out to avoid the melee. The 10.30 Twin Sails Bridge should be fun.
The Reds are due at 12.00. Anyone know if the Eurofighter is due to display on Saturday ?

There are yellow (?) bouys marking off a no go area with some patrol boats keeping watch. I would guess a few hundred yard rectangle off the beach. Then you anchor wherever..Usually very crowded, but much of the airshow can be right above you which is pretty cool, though the flight line is within mainly that rectangle.
Expect some stunning anchoring technique displays ;)

No Eurofighter listed on the schedule.
And I bet you'll be right about the 10:30 bridge lift...especially if the banks are lined with fishermen like last Monday!!

We are there saturday anyhow.
BTW if as previous years, after the planes, you can anchor off the beach with a decent view of the live music stages.

Then there is the fireworks at 10pm of Bournemouth pier.

You anchor off the beach. There are yellow buoys inside which you can't go but otherwise it is just drop the hook where you like. it is all fairly obvious when you get there. There will be naval vessels also anchored in the area. Between the two piers is best. There is a life video streaming but don't know about a dedicated radio station this year.

More information is available on the web site: http://bournemouthair.co.uk/

We will be there tomorrow,(Saturday) in Splash, its probably going to be quite busy I guess. Its also fairly deep outside of the yellow buoys so as others have mentioned look out for some great anchoring!
As an aside at 09.00 on Sunday is the start of the Cowes-Torquay Powerboat race; mustering just South of North Head, first mark is Poole Bay Cefas, the old Two Buoys. We will be down there at just after 9 on Sunday to see the action, or sad lack of it . Only about 14 or so boats this year; a sign of the times.
If you do go down there keep just to the North of all the marks, (there are 3), and you will have a good view.
It will be only the second time since 1979 that I have not raced at Cowes.

Typhoon is displaying Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Red Arrows Friday and Saturday but not Sunday. Vulcan is Sunday only. Also Sally B (B-17), BBMF (Lanc, Spit, Hurricane), Swordfish, assorted hydraulic palm trees and some excellent dusk displays. Full list is here http://bournemouthair.co.uk/aircraft/ - if you do have some way of getting ashore and you have kids that's worth it as there's a lot going on but I don't know of any way beyond train/bus from Poole. http://bournemouthair.co.uk/bournemouth-air-festival/wp-content/uploads/2013/05/Night-Air-6pp-DL-Leaflet-Proof-05-2.pdf. Wave 105 are sponsoring and doing live shows I think (105.2 and 105.8 covering Chichester to Swanage on a good day).

It's expected be very busy on the M3/A31 at the weekend as the Great Dorset Steam Fair is on as well. This was Day One (Thursday)

No form at all. Anchor up by the pier with all the other boats and enjoy the show. Spent Yesterday and today there. Red Arrows were awesome! Also discovered that an hour and a half in choppy water at anchor is the limit my daughter can go before being explosively sick all over the boat.

bm.jpgStill here tonight waiting for the fireworks. Just been watching people set fire to their planes!

Tune radio in to FM 87.70 for display coverage.

I'm hoping the wind settles down tomorrow and it is supposed to be a Northerly which will help.

Henry :)

It's already gone a bit northerly so should be fine tomorrow. Actually its ok now but just seems to be me, a raggie, 4 navy ships and a French training tall ship that are prepared to brave the 6 inch swell tonight!

The fireworks tomorrow night, like tonight, will be launched from a barge 100 meters south of the pier. There is a 200 meter exclusion zone around the barge which nobody was aware of tonight when the barge arrived at 9:30. If you stay for the fireworks suggest getting in the correct position early or face carnage re-positioning with everyone else.

Suspect tomorrow and Sunday will be very busy.

Just about to head off. I will be on my rib Darwin. 6.5m Ribeye. Just 2 pob. If you see me give me a holla. I will probably be stuck behind a camera with a big lens!
