Bought a new boat but delivered without a CE Plate

Thanks for all the info,
they have been aware of the problem for along time, ( 3 Months since I purchased) It would be such a easy fix if they just sent it to me... If no reply on monday, I will go down the trading standards / creditcard route.
I dont think I have a chance of a full refund to be honest..,

Thanks
J
Hi
Your right, there would not be a chance of a full refund unless this was notified immediately (in writing) from the company who sold you the boat
Whole different game if you paid for this by a credit card though
Searush is right too, if you can take such a pragmatic approach and positive approach when selling.
good luck anyway

He did pay by credit card. Come on, keep up at the back :)

If you paid with a Credit Card (which I understand you did) then you need to apply for a full refund NOW.

You will have a problem in that the goods have been delivered (so you can't claim on the C/Cards "not supplied" cover) and it's gone past the 30 days that you have to notify them on the "insurance" part of the cover you get, but you certainly need to let them know NOW.

HOWEVER

What are you doing??? Why aren't you driving down there right now, this morning, in your car, with at least one mate. Get into the yard - there are probably still some people onsite. Turn up and basically DEMAND your CE plate. Don't leave till you get it - it's pretty certain that it's the last chance you'll get because I am sure they will be bust in a week or so.

DO NOT BOTHER with Trading Standards - they can't recover any money for you if the company is bust, and they will take months to do anything and you don't have months!

If they won't give you the CE Plate there and then, take a photo of a boat in stock with a CE plate on it. Make them tell you the CE certification reference or number (Boats tend to be CE certified as a "type" and then quite legitimately you could get one made up for your boat after the event.

If they want to evict you from the premises, call the police, make a fuss, stand your ground, and most importantly don't leave till you have what you want.

If you just write to Trading Standards, by the time they get off their lazy fat backsides, there won't be a company left to chase - I know because I have been in your position - it took 6 months before Trading Standards even contacted the company, and guess what - they'd long gone....

Unless £5k or whatever it cost you is peanuts to you, and you can afford to either lose a large chunk of that, or shell out a load to get back to where you should already be then I wouldn't be sitting around doing nothing - I'd be in the car, sorting it out - 4hrs drive is nothing to resolve this.

As per the thread on the other forum, was your boat supplied as a "nearly" complete package with the windows missing or was yours a boat ready to go?

Hi there, my boat was basically engine ready... windows , steel plinths, seats & everrything, however it did miss a steering wheel & a PLATE ofcourse... Thanks

I have only had the boat 2yrs... the spider cracks are really really thin, I have one at 2inchs
and one around 4-5 inches, more less at the back of the boats hull.

Any suggestions on this please?

Hi,
The owner told me it was very econimical with the 25 hp (even as its a cathedral hull) he told me working speeds he uses is around 7 knots. Is this person talking truthfully? Its a potting boat I think, any opinions on this work boat?

Hi there,
I have just bought a 17 ft cabin cruiser or very similar to a wilson flyer if you will.. I would like to have electronics such as nav lights / gps / vhf . oh and the electric for the outboard.

I am stuck on where to start really, I know to look for deep cycle marine batterys, but beyond that I am lost
Thanks

It has been about 2 - 3 months now...
I doubt I have any claim left?

A few quotes from some of your previous posts. How many boats have you got?? The first three are in the past month which is several months after you say you bought the JRS boat. I'm confused!!

I've spoken to JRS marine today, a chap called Jonathan, talked very enthusiastically and knowledgeably about his boats. He admits that business isn't great but building boats is all he wants to do. Sounded pretty genuine to me, confirmed that all private boats were CE plated, said something else applied for commercial boats, can't remember exactly what. Would that apply to yours?

I got through on the phone, I'd suggest phoning him again. After all it's only a small plate (yes I know it's important but why would he not want to supply it?) so virtually no cost to him. IMHO many responses on this thread are way OTT.

Oh yes, I was interested in the fastliner, but eventually disreguarded it.. wish I havent now...
Sorry for the confusion...

Eh? So, you were interested in the Fastworker AFTER you had just bought the JRS? (You bought the JRS 3 months ago, remember). So you're trying to buy a collection of 17-19 foot dories all in the same 3 month period, right?

Okay, I may have made a balls up... I was looking at a few boats at the time.. Sorry I got confused..
I have got a Dory awaisting a CE PLATE at the mo... - 22nd Nov...
Thanks

The company has supplied other boats with the CE Plate, but not a select few... I do not know why:confused:

I've been feelingb grumpy all day (actually for a couple of days) because of this thread!
I'm in the industry and whilst I am most definitely not perfect I try to deliver the best I can.

When it looks like someone is getting a shafting from "colleagues" it really winds me up as we all then get tarred with the same brush.

If it then appears that someone is playing a bit of a silly, unfair hoax then I will be stupendously grumpy and will have to go and shoot lots of innocent bunnies tomorrow (sorry sarabande) during my day off.

When a seller supplies boats without CE docs and plates ( i now know of at least 2 cases), then doesn't respond to those sellers phone calls or Emails, that starts to set off an alarm bell or two.

One of the guys bought a new boat, CE docs and plate promised but not included, the story being that the original buyer had changed his mind and was having one of JRS' cats. There is now another Avocet on Ebay, being offered by a guy who says he has changed his mind and is buying a cat. The boat is stored at JRS and he gives JRS phone number, he also gives his own mobile number, which just happens to be the same as the contact number for all of the "Sold" secondhand boats on the JRS website.

Try to add an "accessory" from the JRS website and you are immediately redirected to a PayPal page that informs you JRS Engineering Ltd (Not JRS Marine) are unable to accept payments. JRS Engineering Ltd is a dormant company, according to companies house.

To me, that all looks very dubious. I might be wrong, perhaps they are all just innocent coincidences.

By the way, i have tried several times to contact JRS on both landline and mobile number. Landline never gets answered and the mobile goes straight to voice mail.

It does indeed. But a guy posting about three new boats in the last month that he's thinking of buying, and then posting he already bought a similar boat 3 months ago, and giving fob-off non-answers when questioned about it, is also a bit fishy

There's some aspect that isn't being explained candidly by Johnn imho, and that's not very nice when folks are going to the trouble of helping with his apparent predicament by typing advice and assistance on here.

Sorry for any confusion I have made, I would never waste anyones time... I know of, Other users are going through the same thing.
Thanks
