Can anyone (maybe Ben Meakins himself?) explain to me what "bladed" means as in, "........you can power away, with sails bladed out, ......" or "......with No.3 up, the mainsail bladed out and........."? Is this new terminology that seems to have passed me by?

Great magazine though!

Bladed means with the sails set up flat and with minimal twist. So the Main would have maximimum outhaul, halyard. backstay and kicker so that when the sheet is eased the whole sail acts like a blade and moves in and out. This is often achieved by dropping the traveller down the track a few inches as well.
A Blade jib is a non overlapping number three where the clew is directly above the block on the genoa car, which will be right forward. Again maximum halyard tension. IF you want to open the slot you would need to have an outboard car to sheet to,
