Unfortunately it appears that I need to have the boat hauled out and the engine removed and then re-fitted (I am told this will probably need three weeks in total). I will probably bit the bullet and get the sail drive gaiter replaced at the same time.

My first throughts were Fox's or Suffolk Yacht Harbout although I have some misgivings about both of them, or could anybody reccomend an alternative?

Fox`s are very good BUT
tie them to price & completion date.
Guapa is the expert in this field

What are the dimensions of your boat, what engine is involved & what has to be done?
 
Assuming you're 40ft or less then it's worth talking to Larkmans at the top of the Deben and the (independent) marine engineer Peter Norris who does the engine work there. Larkmans are good value, as is Peter, and he is very good indeed.
 
They did a removal/refit and gaitor for me last year on time and on quote... Good work no issues.

King's at Pin Mill are very reasonable, and the engineer who works there (and elsewhere) Gerald Abbott is a good guy. He has done all my engineering and other club members have used him.
 
Another vote for Kings Yard and Gerald Abbott who also does all my engine 'bits'.

No one gets to work at Kings without getting past Gus's requirement of high standards or workmanship........and I've had a lot of work done by them!!
 
I can recommend Frank Halls and Son at Walton, good people, Gerry Blake does their engine work also very good. If you need a cradle on lift out, mine will fit the bill and is lying idle there until I lift out at the end of the season. You are welcome to make use of it. Speak to Trevor or Chris and I'll ring them if necessary.

We re-engined at Fox's, and I can thoroughly recommend them.
The quality of their work has simply been top-notch.

Volspec have been working to date, so far we have had the injectors serviced and the head has been off this week.

Just over ten meters, engine in a Volvo MD2020.

Can't Volspec arrange a deal at Woolverstone for you? It'd be easier for them to work on there, and save some labour cost for them driving up and down that wretched road!

I'm sure they can lift an engine easily. As for price, you could be surprised - pleasantly or unpleasantly. None of the local boatyards are exactly cheap; they seem to work on a different basis from business as we know it! But having the boat at Woolverstone might save £40 a day or more in labour charges for travelling.

Its a good point, well made. I will speak to them when I go down to the boat this weekend.

The other decision to make is whether to try and get the work done this month before the laying up 'rush' or wait until the boat is hauled out early in the New Year.
