Hi there; I dropped my Road Trailer off for Bearings replacement 2 weeks ago; a job quoted at £160 inc bearings for 2 hours work, the bearings stated about cost £80, ready in about a week to 10 days dependent upon replacement bearings being supplied ok; well despite phone messages back forth; still no trailer ready yet; every deadline has passed with yet another suggested deadline a few days hence;
So what is the best course of action to take ?

Not used to this sort of action from a Boatyard tempted to do a supprise visit unanounced with support, but the better of me thought that I could ask on here first; is there any proper effective action I could or should take ? any advise suggestions most welcome, thank you ?

Just to clarify, in case it makes any difference, the company offers Storage and Servicing in its yards, never used them before, but research came up with them as a good all round company for Winterising my boat; I di d wonder if they are actually using my trailer, its well founded, about 750 k capacity and many rollers; but thats me getting paranoid I think ?

Thank you for any and all comments and suggestions

There's a trailer centre on the Marsh Barton industrial estate (close to where the Capt is based). I'd give them a ring and ask for a price for the bearings and availability. They also do servicing, so could ask about that as well. Depending on what they tell you, I'd then consider retrieving your trailer and taking it elsewhere if they tell you the bearings are readily available. Or buy the bearings and change them yourself, not a difficult job to do

Either they are busy doing other stuff, or the bearings haven't turned up yet.
A 2 hour bearing change job is either an urgent breakdown or a nice little fill in job to fit in when you get short of more urgent things to do.
Are the bearings a bit obscure? American trailer by any chance?

That sounds very expensive. LJS suggestion of Marsh Barton is a good one. Westward Trailers, or similar ?

I would certainly call in unannounced saying you want to take photos as you might be selling it.

750kg cap sounds like standard 1" bearings which are £16 for the dear one's from trailertek!

I agree, if it's not done take it away. Any backstreet garage should manage that a doddle

Western Towing is the one I had in mind.

Hi there longjohnsilver; thank you, yes my first Port of Call was my local Western Towing Newton Abbot, they have always been good to me when I have called in, even last time a few months ago serviced my Jocky Wheel there n then without making a charge, so I bought an extra Number Plate and a few other bits; but WT could not do my servicing for at least 2 months then, so thats when I looked around for others;
Anyways the Company have stated this morning that the traileris ready to collect asap; they sounded on the phone as if they were really stretched and a bit confused about whats what in their business at the mo, just hope She has not got 'IT' the bloody Virus; so will wear my Face Mask, one of the good ones with a filter, hen I call in.
Very much appreciate all the input comments posted, I was getting really concerned about ever seeing my trailer again, thinking I had been set up with a scam somehow; and as out of season now am keen to get my newish boat (sh but new to me) out into storage asap

Did they just not secure the wheel? Did they replace the bearings? Pretty shoddy if they left the wheel loose. I just had a new back tyre on my motorcycle, I always ask the guy what torque settings he used. Usual get a blank look.
