With a new boat scheduled to be launched in January my debit card is going to be well used in the next few months as I buy all the extra kit.

Is any category of equipment typically heavily discounted at the SBS?

Given that I will be on my nautical spending spree in November and December I think it would be reasonable to expect the marine trade to soften prices at that time of year.

I am hoping that sail makers have marked seasonal price variations but I will also be looking for a dinghy, outboard, instruments and safety gear.

The show have some good deals but to compare prices, do your homework and try asking for discounts /forums/images/icons/wink.gif

Boat Show prices are often flagged as big discounts but are sometimes no better than you could get by gentle haggling direct with suppliers. The great advantage of the show is that you can compare prices very quickly and possibly trade off one supplier against another.

If you are equipping a new boat do make this point to suppliers and make it clear you may be placing a fairly large order.

There are good winter deals to be had from sail makers who are keen to fill winter slots. However, get your order in early because the really slack months tend to be November, December and January.

Often looking around the boat show, the word Cartel spings to mind! I would be more inclined to do some window shopping, produce a shoping list (pick up one of those thick catalogues that some of the chandlers have their own cover put on), then after the show send an email with your list to various prospective suppliers. Then start negotiations, but do not be rushed, as you would be at the show.

The supplier margins must exist for the show 'offers', so buy at your pace.
