oh yes a Caprice and a Navigator and another West Wight Potter somewhere in the list

Interesting to hear that you have bought your MG Lone Gull twice.

I know I'd be sorely tempted if the current owner were to think of selling 'The Cause' (wooden Maurice Griffiths Tidewater gaff cutter).

What did you make of the Red Fox Vision? Not the best looking boats, to my eye (a bit bloated, maybe), but I could be interested if we decide to downsiz from our current Westerly Falcon.

Happy with the choices all were a pleasure to sail and I doubt we’ll be making any changes again and just stick with our trusty Prout

Thanks for the reminder: we had a Pahi (I carelessly listed her as a Tiki. Now corrected!).

We really loved the Pahi.

Wonderfully fast and comfortable with the wind abeam, and great privacy for two couples (if a bit on the basic side).

She took us from the Solent, over to the Scillies, up the Irish Sea (taking in Dublin, Belfast, Strangford and the IOM), then on to Scotland.

We eventually decided we wanted a bit more protection from the elements in the cockpit.

You're obviously more dynamic than me.

We've currently got two lots of costs, two lots of maintenance etc.

We need to choose whether we're still sailors or now motorboaters (currently, a Westerly Falcon and a Seamaster34 don't really make sense).

Hmmmmm .... or perhaps I should get rid of both!!

I sense that CLP and Bobc share the adrenalin rush gene: some exciting boats in their lists.
I'm told I'm too old for adrenaline rushes......but racing a J109 in a 2 handed race with another old codger a couple of years ago, under full sail, with assymetric up and 17 knots plus through the water was pretty hair raising, and great fun, but potentially very expensive. Getting the kite down was interesting.

Excellent list.
You’ve really liked the kingfishers, with four on the list.
I like mine but am thinking of trading up.

Big gap between the Caprice and the Freeman because I was racing other people’s boats.

Plus the obligatory flock of Avon dinghies- four at last count

The Vega remains the boat that we did the most with, in terms of mileage and how often we used it. We've slowly shifted towards a pattern of doing a couple of fortnight-long cruises each year with day-sails only really for shakedown purposes or if entertaining family.

Red Fox Vision - pricey but well made, seaworthy and stunning performer. I bought her as I had always wanted to put a junk rig on a modern, performance hull which lends itself to being sailed slightly free. Only six made.
Ivory Gull is GRP so little maintenance needed compared to your Tidewater. Nothing beats a winter's evening in one of Maurice Griffiths little ships.

1) Thanks for your thoughts about the Red Fox Vision. Apart from their perhaps slightly dodgy looks, they've always appealed: the combination of smallness, decent accommodation for two and good performance.

2) The main cabin on 'The Cause' is absolutely one of the cosiest places on earth. And you're right, on a winter's evening, in a quiet anchorage, with the solid fuel stove going, she was heaven on earth.

Sigh (yes, withdrawal symptoms)!!!!!!

3) I never really gave junk rig much chance: (a Coromandel for a couple of seasons), but I'd need lots of convincing to go back.

What was the Contessa 33 like - beautiful looking yacht and would have been my dream boat in the 80's

I love Wansworth's thread about a "small fast 20 footer", and it got me thinking about the rather alarming variety of boats I've owned.

They are:

Heron dinghy
National 12
Manta 16, 'Lazy Prawn'
Cormandel, 'Shoggle 2'
MG30, Name?
Moody 33, 'Balki'
Halcyon 27, 'Landfall'
Carter 33, 'AmyK'
Westerly Discus, 'Sonny Boy'
Seahopper (pretty close to a folding Mirror)
Maurice Griffith's Tidewater (gaff cutter built by John Tyrell), 'The Cause'. Wow .... a beautiful, characterful boat
Hunter 490, ?
Comanche catamaran (big sister to the Iroquois), 'Aileen'
Trident 24, 'Mary Reeve of Hamble'
Westerly Falcon, 'Celtic Spirit'
Seamaster 34 (TSDY), 'Arandala'

So many happy memories from them all.

Anyone else want to play?

Edit: I forgot.....

Seadog 30, 'Nicola Jane'
Snapdragon 670, 'Lady Helma'
Solo
Tamarisk 29 (plastic gaff cutter), 'Laxy Gander'
James Wharram Pahi 31, 'Tai Nui'
Supergrad
Actually Neal - didn't you have some superfast dinghy from us? & I'm not sure i see the Tinker tramp on your list......
