At the lower end of the market.
Princess 35 about to be sold, buyer moving up to a Turbo 36, buyer of the Princess 35 selling a very nice Mitchell.
All boats within sight of each other on the same pontoon.
All known quantities including the seller , no travelling half way across the UK again to look at a pile of optimisticaly priced junk which did not actually look that bad in the photos and of course another % k to get it back home.
No surveys, usually a whizz at WOT to if see anything falls off. :)
Are sellers finally now accepting that boats once again are only worth what somebody will pay ? , funding seems to be from cash from pension funds.
Several other skippers with money waiting , want to upgrade to something newer , but simply unable to shift existing boats.
One small as new Peche Promanade with outboard on sale, only recently purchased, skipper already now looking for bigger boat.

How do you define the "lower end of the market"?
Activity.
£25 - £ 50 K. Early 1980s to 1990. 10m-13m Diesel on shafts.
Not much moving on more expensive stuff ie £100k to £225k.
One Fairline 32 up for sale, owner haas had enough of the "Devils Anchors" ,now looking for something / anything with shafts. :)
Baveria 29 just been towed away for disposal, a nice DIY project boat for somebody, neglected 290 outdrives possibly beyond economic professional repair.
Have helped the owner move it a couple of times over the past few years, for "work" on the outdrives.

I have been watching the boat sales at Naburn Marina in York and they also seem to be selling pretty well. Prices from £20K to £200K ish. Prices seem to have dropped back to pre-covid levels and assuming the boat is in good condition they seem to sell in a 2 - 6 weeks. There seems to be one boat that is sticking. It is a Sealine S41 with KAD 300s. It all looks pretty good except the rear bedroom ceiling panel is damaged/unglued. I am aware some people are wary of S41 because of alleged chine riding but other S41s seem to sell pretty quick. So I suspect if the ceiling panel was fixed properly it would sell. Why don't people sort these pretty easy jobs out pre sales?

Same reason people try to sell boats that in the photos are absolutely full of junk!

I agree boats are selling - but I think it's because some of the sellers have got real. I saw boats a few years ago at £30k that I couldn't see were worth more than £20k

There is a nice Sealine that was on at £29,995 - been on for a year or so - now priced at £17995 - at that price it actually looks pretty good value...

I do think boats are a luxury item and with the cost of living still a massive issue especially at the "lower" income levels I think finding someone who can afford the running costs It's getting harder.

I could buy a small sportscruiser if I wanted to - but I am genuinely still not sure I could afford the running costs of fuel / mooring / berthing etc etc.....

I used to run a boat on an average kind of salary in the UK - I now earn well above the average salary but I genuinely don't know if I could afford to run one these days.

We are both pensioned, and the UK pension does not go far, wife has a small pension and we make that up with investments made that cover our costs, but prices are rising sharply here, yesterday a lot was going back on the shelf in the supermarket when we looked at the prices!

We are quite lucky in that our closest marina is also the least expensive, there is no pump out or fuel, there is a shower, laundry, WC, and porta potti disposal available, electricity and water is available at quayside, passant boats are charged €11 per night with second night free (BOGOF?)
Annual mooring/club costs are reasonable even for our <12m boat at less than €400, registration and insurance are not too bad, registration lasts for 5 years and was €176, insurance is €188 this year, so far we have done around 700km since April this year, diesel was €1.20/litre and we topped off with 618litres at the beginning of May, tanks are at about 3/4 full now. We both wish we had more time to go out on the boat, our last trip was 8 days covering about 130km just taking our time and not wanting to return :)

This season we have 3 new boats in the haven, one was one that we looked at last year and said no to. one at 10m and two at 14m so sales/purchases are still happening here.
