This months MBY (Sept) has article on boats around £75k, text by Tom Willis. List includes no less than
4 Fairlines 3 Princess 3 sunseeker etc 22 BOATS IN ALL and not a mention of a Broom.
Why do you think that is (Kim) Boats like my Crown make very good value at around 75-78k.
I'm gonna sulk now.

It is sad that Mr Broom decided to call them after himself mind you it could have been worse, what if his name
had been Duckworth or Pratt or something. Anyway still a shame they were'nt mentioned, maybe its cos
MBY are infatuated with £1m pound yachts.

I'm only pulling your tail, I actually think they are wonderfully built boats, always lusted after the ocean 37, when I was a motorboater and younger.

For what it's worth I think that Crowns are great boats...not the very best of hulls in terms of design by today's standards if you want to push hard but very versatile for the mix of sensible sea and river boating that I for one find so enjoyable (the sea is my first call but I do like straying up and exploring rivers).

I'm not desperately in love with the look of the old Broom/Ocean 37s; they have dated rather badly in my view. The 35 European, whilst arguably less capable, looks better and gives a lot of change from £75k. The Crown went through an expensive phase but now looks better value for money when they arive on the market. I also like the dual-use forecabin on the Crown, very sensible.

In terms of accommodation an aft cabin is a no-brainer for me as I like to have a decent set of bedrooms on my boat if I can, get more use out of it that way. Having said that I've grown fonder of aft cockpit boats in recent years - for their sociability and outside (lazarette) storage space and (sometimes but not always) their better access to things like stern glands and engines. A combination of the two is perfect in so many ways except, as American builders have proven, the hybrid usually looks just plain ugly. Once tried a chartered Bayliner 47 with aft cabin and aft cockpit out in Thailand - it wouldn't win prizes for looks but having the grand master suite aft and a separate cockpit area making it easy to jump in the sea and dump the wet clobber afterwards was really good.

Sorry, all a bit of a ramble but for £75k-£80k I would certainly be looking at Brooms.

Just wonder why they ignored what is a very popular boat in England. Think I'll write to the author, unless you
can get him to answer on the forum ?

By the way whilst I have an aft cabin I also on the Crown, have a full width deck over it unlike some of the recent
Brooms.
Therefore the aft deck whilst not being low level like an aft cockpit, is quite large, like on the P435
but not so wide.
This means it enables us to have an outside meal but with the added benefit of a bit
of privacy being high up an all. Especially if your stern to in the Marina which I always am.
