Well Seastoke at least you managed to get a look at my post before it was taken down.

That’s the shortest lived post I have ever made. I had hardly put in the last full stop before it was gone.!

#158 , what actions would be advisable, if a British / English sailor who did not have a vhf radio operators certificate found them selves to be in the unenviable position mentioned previously . Making a Mayday call would I believe be legal , as would a mayday relay . How would a rescuer prove they were not “ smuggling people “ but rescuing them .

He'd surely have a mobile "phone, but nobody's going to prosecute you in those circumstances.

As I understand it, you will still be able to sail to any Belgian harbour (they are all ports of entry), get your passport stamped there and then move to another Schengen country unhindered, without further checking in. You can be stamped out at any port of entry you choose. Whether all Dutch North Sea harbours are also ports of entry I am not sure, but I would be surprised if they weren’t. I have been visited in the past by Dutch customs at the pontoon on the inside of the Roompot lock (Oosterschelde) and at the lock in Vlissingen. Vlissingen is a bigger commercial harbour than you might think, they certainly have a customs office
Interesting. I have been through Vlissingen a few times but never stopped, it doesn't seem very yacht friendly. We have always pushed on to Middelburg. There's a phone number for an office some miles away but how do you get a passport stamped over the phone?
We were once visited by a uniform [customs/ immigration/ police?] in Breskens but they didn't seem interested in paperwork. I think they just wanted coffee and a chat.

In today's paper, I read that cruising from Ireland to the continent has increased (+50% volume), allegedly
