The best laid plans just never go to plan where boatings is concerned! Our planned cruise in company only got as far as Weymouth due to the changing weather. All the work done prior to the event had to go onhold, The Carey Arms cancelled and a swift alternative found in Weymouth. Thank you the Royal Dorset Yachtclub for putting on a great spead at such short notice.

The only thing that went to plan was the departure time on Wednesday. After that it was up early each morning to see what the weather gods were going to throw at us that day.

But despite the ever changing weather, all had a good time, even if it did mean finding the odd extra curricula activity.

We left Hamble Point South Cardinal at 09.15 on Wednesday.

And following a good run down in just under 2 3/4 hours, even it was a bit "lumpy" we arrived in Weymouth.

In fact Wednesday was the best day of the lot and we had a display by the Red Arrows in the afternoon.

Then it was a case of sitting out each day............

And we even had one skipper turn up for the daily briefings suitably attired.............

Yesterday (Saturday) the younger crew members were carted off to see Toy Story 3 in 3D and later we had a bowling session!

Given the forecast for more inclement weather we left Weymouth this morning and were able to give the crews plenty off opportunity to use their radars - fog all the way to St Albans Head! So picture taking was a bit light on the way back, but our rib decided to play!

Good to see that you made the best of it - maybe Torbay next year then?
And maybe meet up with you as well.

Good to see the old girl again - if only pics of her cockpit.

Not rubbing it in but I'm typing this in Valencia.
We have decided that its too windy to go back to base tomorrow - at least an F3 !!! so will probably exlore the city a while longer and then go back via the Columbrettes.

I'm not getting the pics Julie, is it my PC?

Some really great photos there folks, thanks for posting.

I'm sure all the participants just enjoyed being part of the cruise, and relaxed in the knowledge their safety and comfort was the first consideration.

Sorry about the shortened cruise but I agree, those Red Arrows shots are pro standard

Bad luck with weather but looks like it was plenty of fun anyway. Thanks for posting the (brilliant) pics. Weymouth looks a nice harbnour - I've never been there. Looks a bit like a Fairline boatshow in some of the pics :)

Great pictures, as has been said, Red Arrows shots are very good.

We suffered with you... moved to Portsmouth on Thursday to pick up crew and had a nice run and pleasant evening sun. We poked our heads out south of the IoW on Friday morning, but after dropping into a couple of holes I couldn't steer around fast enough, we came back, only damage being a coat hangar holding wet weather gear that snapped clean off at the hook. Did a quick run through the Solent to Yarmouth ready to try again on Saturday.

Bet you found the same as us, each day was forecast to be OK, but by the morning it had worsened. When we saw the forecast for F8 on Sunday night we hightailed it back to Swanwick, filled up the tanks while it was calm and put on doubled-up lines. Typical that the only accurate forecast was the time of the hoolie, which duly arrived around midnight.

First time this year we have had bad weather, so I can live with it, but sorry your plans didn't work out.

Thanks for posting, fantastic pics and great looking boats (and planes)!

Not being familiar with jets, I was wondering about those flaps on the backs of the planes. They seem to be sticking out at an awfully steep angle considering the speed !?

All seemed to enjoy it despite the conditions judging by emails that have come back we have already been asked when the next years' will be. I'm thinking May! Get better weather.

There were one or two Fairlines' - 3 x Targa 44's, 1 x Targa 47, 1 x Phantom 48 then we had 2 Sealines, a Sunseeker and an Absolute. Oh, and our rib! We were going to take Motala, but in the end, due to one of the boat skipper's having a back issue, Julie went on to help and I was already on a T51 (ex Jenny Wren) as the owner wanted to come and was single handed.

There should have been several more but due to technical problems and personal issues they dropped out at the last minute.

Nightmare to be honest! We went up to McDonalds every morning as only place that had wifi ( I HATE MCDONALDS!!) and looked at the various forecasts. The only thing that was consistent was the inconsistency!

We did consider running back to Poole on Saturday night, but could not be guaranteed berths for that number of boats so had yet another night in Weymouth. It's not bad place, but the smell of fish after a while starts to pall somewhat. I arranged a visit to Portland Coastguard which those that attended found very interesting. So we did more than just jump from one boat party to the next! :D
