Re: Boating Hardware Ideas?

Just a quick update on wanting to buy a boat and write it off on tax for a company...

It would appear that the greedy b@st@rds at Inland Rev, want their cake as always...

If you purchase a boat (same goes for a car) in your company name, and at any time use it for personal reasons, you are to pay a 'benifit in kind' tax, which stands at 40% of the original item price + 12.8% National insurance...

So if my boat cost £5K but the original price was say £50K, I would need to pay £20K BIK tax, + £6400 for personal use...

What a wonderful country, never mind the fact I got off my ass and did something with my life... no point ever being able to enjoy the fruits of my labour.... Perhaps I should go on the dole....

The solution is then, purchase it personally... and then hire the boat back to the business, say once a month for a nominal amount, which just happens to cover the cost of mooring and upkeep, + allows me to draw money from my company without pushing me over the Dividend/Wage personal tax threshold....

Re: Boating Hardware Ideas?

I use my boat for equipment trials on occasion, and can only charge a nominal rate based on the true running costs and the number of days I use the boat for business use. This keeps my boat income tax-neutral

Re: Boating Hardware Ideas?

If 'chartering' it back to your company, make sure you have the right insurance cover. Most do not cover for chartering.
