Boating in Cyprus?

Relocating to Cyprus in early 2016, anybody experienced this area!? Just casual boating rather than Gin Palace....

My parents live out there and their friends have a Cranchi based in Laatchi. They were in Paphos but said it was a bit ropey! Much happier in Laatchi about 25mins from Paphos. Whereabouts will you be based?

Probably just a small sportcruiser, or dayboat though!

We holidayed in Latchi last year and rented a couple of boats. Lovely setting with plenty of bars and restaurants etc and beautiful coastline.

Slightly further from airport but well worth it. Its where the Cypriots go, enough said

Never been to Southern Cyprus, but the Northern part is fantastic, quiet, unspoilt and great weather. There is a new Marina up the coast from Kyrenia. Direct flights are much easier these days.

There is the Karpaz Gate marina in the north which is new and very quiet.. Maybe a bit far from where you plan to be but maybe a destination.. Not much around it but has a really nice restaurant..

Latchi; Lovely place, very nice restaurants and a bar just beyond the "centre" walking Northwards run by lovely people. Armchairs to sit on looking towards the sea.We also hired a boat (with a 200HP outboard I think). The hire people were surprised at how much fuel we'd used in an afternoon and how we were not bothered about it, probably as we were used to the costs of running a 5.7 litre V8 !; most people it seems drive boats slowly.

The photocopied "marine charts" they provide are useless though, but using common sense there are no unseen hazards.

I would caution against going from South to North as you may get the boat impounded by the Greek Cypriots. Whilst there has been a relaxing of attitudes when crossing the 'border' it is still fraught with problems of beligerence at a local level. Try reading this thread from a Cyprus forum.
