Boathouse Rental

excellent news, and I hope you have lots of happy hours there.

Oh, PS. If it line of sight with your house, you can set up a wifi system so that you can post piccies from the boat house verandah :)

Mind's made up. Be daft not to. I told her I would let her know on Monday. She isn't letting anyone else have an option until she's heard from me. (Some people are still honourable)

As you can see it's not far from home.

Seeing that picture, you would be daft not to take up the offer. Having a boat, in a boathouse that close to home looks to be perfect.

Even if not going out on the boat, it looks a lovely spot so spend some time fettling, and close to home for things you forgot to take with you.

Just a thought:

Is there an electricity supply to the boat house (or could you install one)?

If so I would be tempted to install a couple of large batteries in your boat, and use an electric outboard for quiet cruising, knowing you can keep them charged in the boathouse.

Take the petrol OB as a back up in case you run the batteries flat.

That's my thinking.
The owner has a relative who has expressed an interest (taking her at face value, she is very straightforward) but she will wait to hear from me before offering it to anyone else.

It does work out a bit dearer than a landing and a mooring, but is so much more convenient and secure.

There are no pockets in shrouds, do it!!!

I believe there is power. I'll have to check.

It is more expensive, although in view of the fact I don't need a landing (£180) it will be only about £200 more. But I have found the launch/retrieve process is a bit aggressive for my rather feeble back. So I'd rather squeeze a bit more from the budget and be active than keep upsetting my sciatic nerve.
The boat house will take up to a 22ft boat. I am guessing that a lift keeler with a tabernacle mast would be a decent option if I wanted to go raggie again (like a Post Boat or a Lune Whammel). I could drop the mast before putting it away. In the floods the water comes as high as the windows in the doors.
For the present I have the use of Feckless, which is on a mooring just near the boathouse, so I could motor out and leave the boat on the buoy if I use Feckless.

Great idea lakey, you could even have a bit of a party there, a sort of fitting out party....http://www.ollysmith.com/tv/the-secret-supper-club/

sounds like a great idea to me (can't see any photos though)

is there parking there too? The ferry nab launch option would mean you have to pay the extortionate fees there...

The other problem with Ferry Nab is you may launch when it's quiet then get stuck in a queue waiting to come out.

(I've taken the photos off the thread for an unrelated reason)

:):):)

lakesailor, its the chance of a 'lifetime' ! just DO IT :)

and quickly

do not look back on life, regreting that you turned this chance down :)

might suggest that the 'value' you asses your present boat at, has no bearing, really on the cost of such place to moor you boat, plenty of people pay more for the total annual cost of moorings, upkeep, parking, insurance and fuel than their boat might be worth

anyway, as said above, accessability, any state of tide / weather / time of day / evening / time available is reaaly a treasure to have !

whatever happens, next year might be different
