Would you like to see some of me in Brixham in rain? I had come all the way from Torquay in the rain.No fuel at MDL in Torquay. Quite an adventure. In the rain. Photos arent much cop, I m afraid, because of the rain.

Oh go on, I'd like to see some snaps of Croatia, if only to have something to talk to my Croatian hairdresser about.

Yup, gjgm says it'll be boring and Haydn wont like it at all
No.. I said if nothing happened and it was somewhere typical, it would be boring !
Now somewhere unusual and something exciting.. well, I think you had better explain why the forum has not yet been informed !

Well nothing happened at all. We motored around a bit, sunbathed a bit and drunk a lot and then went home. Anyway, you've hurt my feelings now. I'm not going to say anything more:(

Oh, so so boring. Thanks goodness I ve been spared.
If only you had a sail boat it would immediately be a fascinating tale of horrendous wash, near death collisions with drunken mobos, night blindness caused by yobbish blue lighting, making a 10 mile trip in under three weeks, brilliant seamanship, even more brilliant understanding of collregs, awe-inspiring comraderie amongst other sail boats skippers. Couldnt you make it up?

You're absolutely right. Even if I made it up, it could never be as exciting as the average saily boat trip from Hamble to Cowes so I probably wont bother. The forum has been spared

I've been to Cowes. Havent got any photos of the voyage, though.
Sorry.
All happened a bit too quickly. So quickly that I didnt even have time to get out my Portland Plotter and dividers. I was pretty shocked that I got there safely, if truth be told. Probably because I once sat in a dinghy at SBS. I think this sort of skill is in my blood now.

:D Slow day on the markets by any chance??

Cheers
Jimmy

I'm not sure stories about passages are that interesting, unless really unusual. Interesting for those who took part, sure, and thats probably why most people keep it to themselves.
Want to see some holiday snaps?
Why ..something happen?
No, not really.
Err, not really then thanks.

Difference is Phil, you and searush, actually go some place, even bother to write articles in MBY, or put a report on here. It's not all take. Your giving, you make contributions. Thats what keeps the forum alive

Cheers H, feelin' the love.

Well if these 2 posts don't prove you can't please everybody, I don't know what does.

No way. You couldn't get from Hamble to Cowes in a sailboat without using a Portland Plotter and dividers. Are you sure it was IoW and not Iceland you ended up in. They sort of look the same and they've got mobos there too which kick up an enormously dangerous wash several tens of metres high so you might have been mistaken

Tee Hee, excellent.

BUT to revert to the OP can someone tell me what is the purpose/value of such lights?
Are they to light up the sea-bed for snorkling, act as a homing beacon for swimmers, blind the local HM so he can't see the name on the stern of the boat creating that huge wash on the way back from The Folly?

Posing I imagine!

But hey, they are sooo cool!!!! I think I will fit them once the boat's lifted to get its backside wiped.

Yes .. all of those things;) C ( who looks after Business Development ) has the best line on this at boat shows. She is a lady so got away with it.

Q -- Boat Show and bearded gentleman of the "Real" boater persuasion turns up in very battered waterproofs -- somewhat surprising in 30 degree heat , looks over our lights .. feels them .. blinds himself by switching them on... shows a little disdain ....

Our Boater: '' So EXACTLY what would I use these for on my boat?"
C : "Primarily for fun sir"
Our Boater ( outraged) : What ? FUN!!
C (with cheeky grin): Yes Sir , and why exactly did you buy your boat?

To be fair, he got it and laughed profusely at himself ..

I simply build my own, this means i can select the best LED technology and incorporate them into my own lights. Mine are all fitted aboard to reduce electrical consumption while maintaining a good light output, while exterior ones obviously light the deck and other outside areas.

I have some mounted on the bathing platform to light the underside of it, this gives those in the water something to aim for when swimming in the dark, and to allow them to find the boarding ladder.

Each to their own i say.

Good Lord. I had switched off the plotter in order to save my batteries, and was navigating to Cowes by astro-navigation. Do you think some of the stars have moved, and no one has updated me?

On the lights I agree with ACE1 - to each their own and it would be indeed a boring world if everyone followed the same preferences. For me. if I'm honest, I kinda like em on the right boat. But aside from that I have just chuckled for 10 mins reading through the replies which have gone way off topic, but are very funny - I reckon this is a great post, HLB must love it.
