Boat trailer wanted to hire or buy

You could try R.M. Trailers and Hayling Trailers, but there are probably makers closer to you; I'm afraid afterwards your cheque book or credit card may look as if it had been strapped to the space shuttle on re-entry...

No use tryin Hayling trailers..... I think you will find they packed up trading rather than wrestle with all the EU bull****!

RM Trailers still going though. I know someone who had one from them for a Lift keel Westerly Jouster. Nice trailer but not a " combi" like Dylan's. Fitted with flushing connections to flush out after dunking.

Last I heard Hayling Trailers were in the same place but had changed hands in some way, though seemed a bit quiet last time I went past.

Can't say I'm surprised, I and chums stood by several times over the years trying to put money into their hands for things ranging from dinghy trolleys to yacht trailers, but potential customer bods were regarded as nothing but a nuisance interrupting important chats and phone calls !

I was thinking of buying a new dinghy trailer earlier in the year, and every single manufacturer I tried had stopped doing them, temporarily or permanently) because of the new rules.

Not so much EU bull**** as VOSA making a colossal arse of harmonising british trailer rules(already rather arcane) with EU rules(windy and a bit bureaucratic, but not much more onerous than the existing rules). Particularly galling as VOSA have had about a decade to prepare for this happening(where have we heard this story before?). When will the government get the message that difficult-to-interpret rules(or rules which are vague and require voluminous explanatory notes) annoy the PBI who have to enforce them(dibble and VOSA inspectors in this case) as much as they annoy the public.

I have always known them as break back trailers

I had one for my nold eboat as well

pretty common at one time

D

The trailer I had on my Osprey RHIB was a break back trailer and different style to that one.

Got caught by my Head of Department today using the computer to draw up plans for a trailer. Thought I was going to get a telling off. Instead, he sat with me offering ideas of his own. :D

Are you in Largs Marina by any chance?

Since I am thinking of building a boat trailer, I think I should read up on trailer rules, or should I just play dumb.."that's the trailer I got with the boat officer"

Had a look at the regulations. No problems as the trailer will be well engineered and safe and will also be built before October 2012 :D

There is a PDF of the rules available; google 'iva trailer pdf' and the VOSA manual will be in the first few listings.

Not Largs, no.
