Bit of a strange one, am (again) looking at potentially doing a small but significant refit to my boat - which moves a couple of components around to make some space.

The saloon of the boat is pretty much a set of grp mouldings, and I need to establish whether they are structural, and if so - how best to (if at all) reduce them in size a bit and whether that would affect the boat structurally. The weight distribution of the boat wouldnt change that much, no change to rigging or chain plates, just making some far better use of space.

Anyone know of a surveyor or engineer in the Portsmouth area that could advise if my plans are practical? Essentially I don't want to do something that folds the boat in half if the grp mouldings are the one thing that holds the boat together! It's a 29ft boat so pretty small (and cheap) so ideally not someone who's more inclined to be wanting to survey 60ft Oysters and not wasting their time on a DIY nutter with delusions of grandeur...

I 've been mulling this over for a couple of years and whilst perhaps the obvious solution is to purchase a bigger boat, I know that this is a quick fix which would tide me over the next 3 years (which is how long I need before I swap boats for another reason).

Has anyone else hacked the grp components inside their boat?
