boat shrinkwrap

the boat transport guy said to shrinkwrap it to save on stone chip damage as ive just had the hull re gelcoated im not sure as so far ive been quoted £500

shrinkwrap no way !

I had a brand new boat delivered from Cornwall to Scotland last year. Came up on a trailer and was immaculate on arrival !

Is it a keelboat or powerboat ?

Racing dinghies use under covers to minimise dirt and scratches, as they are close to the road and the trailer provides no protection.
With most keelboats only the metal keel is near the road - and a typical low loader trailer provides a lot of protection from underneath. Hence new yachts rarely covered in transit.
I guess with some powerboat loads the bottom of the V hull can be sticking low down in a gap in the trailer, so this could be more prone to chips than a yacht. But with a good trailer and well shielded wheels the risk show be quite low ?

I suggest that you consider having the boat transported unwrapped. We had a 34' keelboat taken by road from Plymouth to Milford Haven last summer. The lorry itself provided adequate protection. There was no damage apparent on arrival.

Good luck with your journey. I presume you have made arrangements for offloading?

thanks chaps ive thought about it long and hard ime going for pallet wrap i think it will do the job as for loading and unloading i use etran they have a self loading trailer
