Afternoon all,

Any recommendations for deck/boat shoes please ?

Lightweight, simple design, robust is the aim....

Cheers, BobWad

You have any number of options from "Official" boat brands in your local chandler or the cheap and cheerful options for most shoe shops.. I pretty much just look for a non marking sole and have bought my last pair a little while ago from Matalan for about £25..

My all time favourite were made by Sowester, sadly no longer available.

I find a pair of Quayside Sydney will gradually move from smart new to antifoul only use over a period of ~ 3 years and I wear them all day every day, save weekends when the older pair go on for working around the boat. By year 3 they are fit for the bin, normally after the AF has got on..

The ones labelled Yachtsman don't make a season, nor a few other makes I have found at chandlers, e.g. Apache Moose, which are generics of other cheap shoes. I have also had Chatham fall to bits within 6 months, and even had Sebago only make 18 months.

So when I see a pair of Sydney's available somewhere around £40 I will buy them, with a new pair due purchase over this Winter.

Best pair I ever had were from Marks and Sparks would you believe. Very comfortable and lasted for ages. Not seen the same ones on the shelves since I bought them though so maybe no too helpful! :)

My favourites were by Teva and called Pelican. Tried all over to get new ones but even Teva say they're not available. Thought I'd found a pair online in Alaska last year but when I ordered they were out of stock in my size, only had size four left and they asked if I wanted them cheap. I take an eleven. Doh
