Can someone please advise where I could buy a system that allows me to set by remote (key Fob type I guess) so that when I leave my boat when going for meal ashore, anybody coming on board would trigger a siren / flashing light to encourage them to leave very quickly. Would also anticipate leaving the system live when we are asleep below.

Is this a good idea, just don't want a surprise when waking in the morning to find articles missing from rear of boat, or worse somebody then attempting to break down cabin door and enter the cabin while we sleep. Even 5 seconds warning of imminent confrontation could make a huge difference to the outcome, I'm pretty good with a five iron given a few seconds to get my stance and positioning set up. Naturally I would only use reasonable force!

Boat is a Sea Ray 400 Sundancer.

many thanks in anticipation /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I would suggest you buy a car alarm system with the loudest speakers possible, make it unpleasant as possible below when triggered. Wire it to your domestic battery.

Iota

£1.99 rape alarm and length of fishing line, works a treat, we had one on deck when parked in rougher harbours and one on each hatch that we left open for ventilation in remote anchorages.

Double sided tape the box to the bulkhead inside or inside a cockpit locker, fine tune the pin so it comes out easily. We would leave them in place on the deck and remember to step over them most of the time.

Any of the cheap car alarms as supplied by places such as Halfords will do the trick. All you would need to add would be the siren and xenon flasher these can be obtained by companies such as TLC.

You should be looking for "Sound Bomb" which makes a hell of a dischordant racket at about 110dBa!

I recommend the sound bomb over the larger and more unwieldy black siren.

For the xenon, look at:
