(i do have a bill of sale) as i cant change the registration details before i head to france would i be able to re register under part 3. its cheaper and lasts for 5 years, buy which time i would of sold the boat.

help please!

OH, AND HOW DO I CHECK IF MY BOAT IS ON THE REGISTER?? ALL I HAVE IS AN SSR NUMBER WHICH IS ON THE OUTSIDE OF MY HULL. IVE JUST READ THAT IT HAS TO BE UPDATED EVERY 5 YRS. I HAVE NO PROOF ON WHEN IT WAS LAST PAID

SSR and Part III are the same thing. You can register online at https://mcanet.mcga.gov.uk/ssr/ssr/ but you won't get a printed cert for a week or two.

I don't think you can check if an SSR number is currently valid: the system is basically a cheap, simple way to reassure foreign Customs men that a boat is British, as Johnny Foreigner doesn't believe that in the UK you can have quite a large yacht that is not registered at all (and you can do so if you wish).

I think a little more attention is requred. The second post was an additional post from the OP.

Give the MCA a ring in Cardiff, sorry I don't have the number, but maybe you can track it down from their website.
I've always found them to be very helpfull in situations like yours. I've done similar when buying a boat in Greece, on faxing them the Bill of Sale, and they faxed me some official documents, to indicate the SSR was being processed. Greek officials were happy with what I presented.
Also, stamped on the stern will be a Hull Identification Number (HIN). It's about 6mm high and about ten or so digits. Quote that in all your communications.
Hope this helps.

I understood that the SSR reg became invalid if the boat is sold . New owner needs to reregister in his name. So if it is not your name on the cert. it is of no use.
Just looked at the back of my 02/07 cert. and it says it should be returned when the boat is sold as it is invalid. So unless this has changed, you need to start again.

i am also in the need to register my new pageant. which do i need to do part one or part 111. i am a member of a club that will let me fly undefaced blue ensign, but need to register the boat first

Quite correct, it is incumbent on the previous owner to deregister when sold. This enables a new owner to register the same ship. I followed this to the letter when I sold my last yacht due to a rather nervous buyer - the de-registration confirmation came through very promptly.

However, the entire Part III SSR registration is a bit relaxed and less bureaucratic in operation than the draconian regulations and notes concerning it make it appear.

Pikeyrm,

You should start a new topic with your question rather than hijack someone else's thread. You'll see why as replies to your question become mixed up with replies to and discussion relating to the original question.

However that said, you can be registered on Pt1 or Pt 3 for the purpose of qualifying for a special Ensign. (the minimum length is 7m I believe so you only just make it on that score)

You realise it can only be worn along with the burgee of the club concerned and only when you are on board.
