Boat project can any one help

Hi,

I have purchased a Seamaster 17 cub as a project and have a number of issues I need help with if any one can help.

There is a hole to the front of the hull that seems to be a perfectly drilled hole, I am unsure if I need to repair this or there is a reason it is there.

I also need to identify the engine so I can get a wiring diagram for the loom so I can get it running.

If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated .

Hi sarabande, I have not yet been able to find any markings of any sort I'm afraid. The hole is about 8mm.

8mm hole if it is on the stem maybe for an eyebolt to attach the trailer winch hook to?

If you put a bit more in your Bio, you might even get a fellow Forumite to come and assist you. Engine wiring is very easy.

Having said that, you are probably on South Georgia or the South Sandwich Isles?

I don't think you will "get" a wiring loom, it will have to me made up to suit your requirements.

ps: the 8mm hole in the front might even be a drainage hole for an anchor chain locker?

Following the Seamaster link provided you will see that engines 'up to 40hp' can be fitted - in other words there was a range of options, so we need to know more about yours to identify it.. They were in production 1960 - 1981 at least, so now 30 years later there will not be a lot of info about, or spares, and you are probably on your own for wiring it up. Also, marine engines developed a lot in that time. In 1960 Stuart Turner was the height of marine sophistication. By 1980 they had been recognised as the rubbish Brit engineering they were, and people were fitting anything from Ford 105e petrol engines, BMC diesels or the newly arrived Japanese engines. Bukh was very popular as a plodder too, as were the Swedish Albin range. Volvo was just getting to grips with the marine market in the 1970's - so you see there was no 'standard' engine for boats like these. People fitted what they wanted.

The 8mm hole in the bows - whereabouts? In the deck, in the stem, above water, below water. Again photos will help us to help you if you are unable to describe things accurately enough.
