I was speaking to a guy that came into our marina last week with an old westerly that looked realy highly polished. He said he had used a product called HUllmagic on it that he got from the web. When I type that in I get nothing. Anybody know it.
Thanks in anticipation.

\"New Glass\" is dreadful stuff...

I used it once, years ago, and regretted it. The product gave an initial sheen which faded and yellowed quite rapidly, leaving a streaky-looking yellowed finish. I used it on a white hull; it may be better on dark colours. Think I've still got half a litre lying around in my garage, which you're welcome to have.

There's no easy "wipe on and walk away" solution to polishing hulls. You have to do a bit of work, although I've found that Meguiars products are by far the least work to use.

great reports

pvb
are you sure its the same stuff I have been surfing for reports on new glass and found this reveiw on 8 similar products by a couple of top american sailing mags (including newglass)over 21 months....
http://www.paradigm-products.com/poliglow_review.htm
newglass and poliglow (think it must be the same stuff) came out top. the boat I saw looked brilliant and the guy had put it on in spring. anybody else used any of the products mentioned. the reason I want to try it is that my hull is clean but gets realy matt after a couple of months

Don\'t believe everything you read...

Don't believe everything you read, either in the press or on the internet (which includes posts on this forum!). I just passed on my honest judgement, based on using New Glass. By all means try it yourself, but I'd recommend applying it to a relatively small area first (say the transom) to assess it before doing the whole hull.

Thanks pvp
I will as you sugest try a small area first, the reason I pointed to the test results from the sailing mags is that I should thing they have no axe to grind they would could just as well say its rubbish. But I take your point I never belive all that I read.
Thanks for your imput. glad I came accross this site looks good to me

Re: great reports

It arrived this morning. Im going to try it this weekend (weather permiting) I am hoping that it will also make it easier to wash all that dirt off that I get every winter on the hard, as it is supposed to seal the hull. I will let you know how I get on, at the price its worth a go. Have a good weekend.

Re: Don\'t believe everything you read...

Some mags are not so independent ------ remember they rely on advertising as well as punters like us buying of the news-stands ........

There was a stink not so long ago about a small trailer-sailer in a UK mag ..... review statements etc. far outside of a small pocket trailer-sailer could be !!!!

Nigel
I looked into importing a similar product last year but we where beaten by the VAT pple. The stuff we where going to bring here was indipendently tested and came out well, it was up there with newglass. so when crest pointed out the website I decided to try it out will let you know how I get on.This stuff has been around for 14 years in the states. We will see.

I haven\'t used it - so cannot comment

I use T-Cut and then finish off with standard auto-wax, the type you wipe on and then buff off.

Every winter boat looks tired and dull, but I think thats more due to the lack of wash-downs etc. she has while siiting idle !!!!!!!

If it really works then I would be first to queue up for a bottle !!!! If I can lubricate my wallet to open !!!

I think the problem with auto polish is that it contains silicon, which should never be in contact with GRP.

Not quite sure what it does. I think soaks into the laminate and does something nasty but that may only if you have to repair it in the future and it will not bond.

So poss best to stick to marine products with are silcon free.

Re: I haven\'t used it - so cannot comment

Morning Nigel
I have a city and guilds in fibber glass hand laminating and repairs of fibber glass from Southampton nautical college. What I do is to use a mild compound to remove most of the dullness and a wet and dry 1500 grit for stubborn stains, then repolish.
The problem is as fibber glass gets old it becomes porous and wont hold a shine, also stains get deeper into the glass and make them hard to get out. My boat looks great for a month or so then goes mat again. The worst bit is getting the stains out of the exhaust area. Hoping this stuff will help, all I can do is try it. Thanks for your comments.

Next time I'm around Hayling ..... we'll have to have a pint !!!

Have you thought about joining the PBO Meet Group ??

E-mail to me and I'll give you the adress URL etc.

As regards getting the stains off .... Barmans Pal / Barmans Mate cleaner ... seems to clean all in its path !!

Out here in ex Soviet locale they have a scourer similar to A--x ... / V-m - can't advertise and all that, spelt ACE, but in Russian it is spoken ARSE .... gets me going everytime I see the telly advert !!!!!

Many Car polishes are Silicon substitute ..... check the tin and you'll find that its not such a big problem.

Anyway - think of all the products that get used around boat building .... that have derivatives of silicon and its family ....
