Boat name lettering size

I want to renew the name on the transom, and need to know what the minimum size of lettering is for Part 1 registered boats. Anyone know what it is?

I didnd think there was one, I thought the only stipulation was aroundthat wooden plnk thing you have to perminaly fix to the boat some where inside that can be seen?

I think its 100mm (4") high, but there's a bit of a get-out, if it's not feasible to use letters that size you should attempt to make it as readable as possible, summit like that anyway. Not that anybody really pays much attention to it, and that includes some surveyors carrying out carving and marking surveys /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

We had a real jobsworth measure ours - 150mm our side of the pond.

I took them off last year to fit liferaft and fender baskets and haven't refitted them yet /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I am pretty sure its 50mm, ie 2ins. The nice young lady at the Ships Regsitry will tell you.

I hunted for an hour on the MCA web site and didn't find it.

Called the nice lady at the MCGA - turns out that its only given on the back of the carving and marking note.

For anyone else looking for the info the minimum height of any letter for Part 1 boats is 5 cm and the width must be proportional. Apparently if its on a light background it must also be in black - oops!

BTW - thanks for the heads up I will give the funkymonkey guys a call.

ah right, it must be 10 cms for boats on the commercial register, or over a certain size or summit, cos i'm sure i'm not imagining it.
