@WorstCase: a beautiful spot indeed, thanks.
Amazing how quiet it is, considering that - as I understood - it's actually offshore, in the open sea, right?
Ummmm, northern Italy is somewhat prettier than Coventry........................:encouragement:+1, though NOT from a Midlands office...![]()
DJI have just announced the phantom 4, with all sorts of clever features. http://store.dji.com/product/phantom-4. I've ordered one just now, so will report back on it. They start shipping in the order of received orders, or something, so I guess I'll get it late March
I'll put my current phantom 3A with 3x batteries and case up for sale @ say 60% of new price when the new one arrives. Mint, never been dunked![]()

... yet!Can I bagsie it pls when the time comes? I'll even come and pick it up (in fact, better still, why don't you just fly it over to my boat and land it there?
)
JtB,
just make sure you don't part with your money before it lands safely on the Targa

You really don't need it waterproof Cloud9. I can see that from your arm chair you think you do, and I thought the same, but when you see how easy the P3 (and no doubt P4) are to fly (as distinct from the P1 which was a pig) you'll realise that waterproofing is a solution to a problem you don't have.Thanks for the tip-off jfm. I had considered getting a Phantom for Christmas, but thought I would wait to see what came next from DJI as its such a fast developing industry. I had expected that it might be a fully waterproof version. Perhaps that will be the Phantom 5? Next Christmas??
Anyway, the prospect of an easier to control and more difficult to crash bit of kit has persuaded me to wait no longer, and I have placed my order this evening.
Yep. The obstacle hitting thing doesn't mean much to me. It uses front looking cameras, I think. I'd prefer it used side or back view cameras, because I can see what's in front, on the iPad. No worries though. The high speed and ~25min flytime look good, and the "follow the subject" seems good for boating if it works wellIt certainly looks interesting; an improved version on every front but rather an evolution than revolution over the Phantom 3? A better top speed is a bonus in boating context as potentially is the obstacle avoidance system of course, although I have some reservations as to it's performance in real life situations. There may be other highlights that I have missed but I shall await for your findings on the 4 before looking to update, unless ofcourse I hit an obstacle with the current one or something.
?..the "follow the subject" seems good for boating if it works well
SOLD to the flaming hoon with the motorbikes and the Targa:encouragement:
It will hover gracefully over the targa, fly thru the saloon door and land softly on the saloon table. The movie will then be posted here![]()
I hope you're right about the needless water resistance! If, before I sink it I can produce something half as appealing as 'Mondays' I will be happy!Looking forward to your movies!

(BTW jimmy, for avoidance of doubt, I meant % of current new price, not the price I paid for it. DJI have of course cut the price of the P3 now that P4 is launched)
