Editing is iMovie on a high spec MacBook Pro, doine on the flight back to UK last night. As you may know iMovie is glitchy so I might buy final cut pro or something and start editing in that. No big deal though - iMovie gets you started. Anyone have any recommendations on editing software btw? I'd like something that feels similar to iMovie because I can't be bothered learning a whole new user interface
Final Cut Pro is a natural step from iMovie. I'm using the current version - really like it.

Many thanks TW. "Natural progression" is exactly what I wanted to hear first hand. I don't want to relearn the basics!. Best wishes

I got Final Cut Pro a while ago now. I am in no way qualified to use it and it vastly outweighs me in terms of functionality versus ability but it's all there if you want it. Being industry standard if you want to know how to do something technically challenging let Google be your friend and all will be revealed.

I did a couple of Seabourn Cruise ship videos where I didn't have the internet to fall back on and it was fine. You get there in the end. I've never had any problems with fragmentation or hanging on a MacBook.

One of the main reasons for getting FCP (that's what you use when searching for how to info) was the ability to import in pretty much any format. IMovie was a bit picky, trying to import from the camcorder required some juggling, all of a sudden after a couple of hundred quid FCP miraculously recognises everything you throw at it. A syndic might think Apple held back a little on iMovie in order to tempt customers into dropping some more cash!

For the relatively modest outlay I think FCP is a no brainer. I have never regretted buying it. Editing is a hard thing to get right though. I see some stuff out there and think wow. You can tell the whole story and totally set the mood via the edit. For me it's like going slow in a car and your foot hurts from lifting off the gas. In editing you have to constantly reduce and concentrate the message. Some times particularly when a shot has taken ages or looks particularly great that can be painful. I'm nowhere near yet but keep plodding on. Little baby steps :)

Henry :)

Videos like this should be watched by people undecided about whether a move to the Med is preferable over the UK. Difficult choice really. Months of staring at skies the colour of battleships emptying their contents over you or sheltering under a bimini putting on the factor 50 and if it all gets a bit much chucking yourself in the briney. Decisions, decisions.

Here's another quick movie, from last weekend 19-20 September. Stunning weather all weekend, hough getting cooler now - air temp is perhaps 22-23 degrees. Shot in south of France at Lerins Islands (the green water) and St Jean Cap Ferrat (the big blue anchorage by st jean marina. In the latter location the navy hulled Sunseeker Portofino 53 abaft/port side of Match is DAW's and the Itama to Match's starboard side is Portofino's. All three boats are in frame at 0:53. Portofino, nice to meet you guys, and I'm very sorry to report that the video I shot of your boat is a total disaster - well actually it is non existent because the camera was turned off, doh! Also abaft of Portofino you can see the Baglietto Minorca posted by Macanderson in his "spare $2.3m thread" (left of frame, at 0:56 in the video). Macanderson's boat might be in the video somewhere but I'm not sure which boat

Next weekend I'm going to try to get some more running shots with this helicopter gizmo, which is proving very reliable and easy to fly. Highly recommended (dji phantom 3)

The video is in HD so click the button to view it in youtube

The GF isin't getting a look at this, she's banned from your channel, jfm :D

Excellent vid, such clear water... hard to imagine!!

Looks pretty amazing! The image quality is fantastic (as is the scenery).

Please keep these videos coming. They have a tremendous therapeutic value to us with no access to those beautiful surroundings.

Can't wait to get my hands on mine (awaiting for delivery of a Phantom 3...).

Woohoo! Videos shot by a pro like you, as opposed to a hamfisted happy snapper like me, are going to be amazing
When you get it, set aside half a day. /you gotta install new firmware in the copter, the hand set, and the batteries! After that tedious faff, you are good to go and you'll love it

K, any chances that you might find space for it in one of your bags, when you'll fly down here?
Aside from being curious to see the thing, I can think of several places around here where "stunning" can't even start describing the potential results that you could achieve.
Here's an appetizer, frinstance....

Definitely nothing hamfisted about that video. I just hope I can keep the thing in the air and be happy if I can get a shot of the boat. Pity next weekend is that last before the boat goes into the shed for the winter. Not sure I get the copter before that :(.

P, not sure how big the thing is with the backpack. I'll have to see how the packing goes, we only have two pieces of luggage for the four of us. Would be nice to use there though, the scenery would put the thing to good use.

JFM,

I would say that the Lerrins was shot on Saturday and you were at St Jean on Sunday. We left Sunday and the drive out from BSM showed lovely flat conditions with very little wind. Very much why we are looking to swap to power. As a matter of fact I have just received a very interesting email!

We were anchored about 200m from your position on Friday and Saturday was spent at Mala.

No worries K, I just thought to mention it, but that's entirely up to you of course.
I don't think I'll follow jfm suggestion to buy one, anyway.
I'd hate to hear swmbo asking me to sleep on the f/b because all the space inside is taken by my toys...

FWIW, this is 2 mins of weekend before last, 27 Sept
For DJI geeks, the bits circling around the boat fast were taken with the new POI function that came with the latest firmware, where the thing circles around a point looking at it the whole time. You wait until it is flying at 10m+, then flick the top left switch from its usual P setting to "F". A whole new menu comes up with POI, follow me, etc
