i am after something like a 34-37 open or hard top sports cruiser or a 36-38 foot flybridge around £120k mark

i have been told that fairline are like a bmw/merc car and so are princess so could someone please copy and paste my list below and fill in next to the various makes what standard they would be in the car world

sealine
doral
sessey oyster

I don't think that equating boat makes with car makes is going to be helpful to you because it is highly subjective. If you want to know the best quality makes out of that list, I'm guessing that most peeps would pick Windy and Hardy but thats like comparing apples and pears 'coz they're completely different boats. Safe choices would be Fairline, Princess and Sealine 'coz they're well known brands in the UK and you know you can always sell the boat again when you need to

I agree, I'm not keen on these car analogies. Fairline, Princess and Sealine are safe bets but I'd also add Windy to the list - quality boats that there is a decent 2nd hand market for. Also, why no mention of SS?

I agree the above but I'm going to anyway:

fairline............................ bmw
princess.......................... merc
sealine...........................vauxhall
doral................................chrysler
sessey oyster...................Dacia (???a brand no-one knows in this country)
windy.............................aston martin though at BMW pricing so maybe BMW 6 series)
regal................................chrysler
jeanneau prestige...............top of the range Renault. Perfectly good motor, some nice bits of avant garde design, loads of great features but a few cheapy parts still noticeable
hardy...............................LandRover defender

If you Google boat ranking the US has both official and unofficial lists.

To me they are useless, however.

Like a car and anything else it is all about meeting MY expectations. One more thing that separates boats from cars it the fact so many boat makes use so few engine makes.

So where cars' quality, performance, longevity etc. relates to it's engine and driveline, boats of any shape and build could easily share same engine, gear and props (yes, I know, several car manufacturers share components too, but not to same degree as boats).

What is better: A new Seat or an old Mercedes? Certainly depends on how you define "better", 'eh?

too be honest i have been looking now for a couple of months and i have asked a lot of questions on here and had some very usefull answers

i have narrowed it down to either a targa 34 around year 1999-2002
or a sealine s34 same sort of year maybe a bit newer for same money

it will possibly be the fairline targa 34 as i think this may re-sell a bit better when the time comes as i dont think i have seen a bad word against fairline on here yet.

they are my 2 boats i keep coming back too will start a new thread now regards engines , running costs etc etc :D
