Boat life show

I was there today. Very quiet, due to weather no doubt.

A good effort for a first show. Would be good to see a few more boats from Princess and maybe one from Sunseeker.

Also a shame that there was only a single small Axopar there.
Well Pete I was very disappointed with the T50 , the flooring was very poor and the side door very poor , not a patch on the v40. But only one mans opinion.

I think there is a limit of 50ft (I forget where I heard that), so I guess Princess and Sunseeker would have fairly limited range that would physically fit.

Quiet at the show today. Good first effort. We stayed 3.5 hours. Dealers had time to talk to you, my brother is looking for a sports cruiser - there were probably 10 outboard powered ones for him to view. We'll be going year.

Met a boaty friend there which was a nice surprise.

My concern is we are still being very careful and looking at the show map and it all being inside to be honest we are nervous re covid as it looks like it might be a little packed. We would very much like to go but not sure we want to risk it. Still haven’t been to a pub inside or anything similar for 2 years but others may feel fine

So why do you call yourself Bigplumbs ?:)

We’re going up on Sunday hoping to see and talk about Navigation, electronics and tech upgrades and insurers too. Probsbly have a look at the faux teak boys too. Are these types of exhibitors all there ?

I think it's fair to say that there are no Covid considerations / social distancing now so if @Bigplumbs is expecting any then it's best to avoid it this year.

I suspect it was quiet because most sensible people did the responsible thing and did not travel.

We were there yesterday and it was very quiet particularly in the afternoon largely due to someone having wind or similar...... The M40 was closed in 2 places northbound, thankfully we drove up the night before and were heading southbound on Friday !

As has been said it was a fist attempt. I think you also have to keep in mind most vendors have sold their 2022 stock already and possibly even their 2023 stock so the urge to exhibit might not be there. They may not even have any physical stock to exhibit.

What was nice was to spend quality time with a couple of exhibitors. I had a long chat with Craig from SUR marine / Hamble Point and there were several smaller boats on display, some jet skis etc. In terms of the big stuff height is the problem as much as anything from what I could gather. Princess just managed with the V40. You need to crane them in place.

I think a lot of the people who did exhibit were quite last minute so let's see what happens next year and in the meantime if you are contemplating visiting this weekend then give it a go, what else are you going to do with a February weekend ? Next year Boot Düsseldorf will be on and that may shape things. The smaller motor boats certainly have a place here long term.

we are heading there tomorrow morning , as you say its a February Sunday , not much else happening , maybe if they get enough support they can afford bigger and better next year

I think the timing may be poor putting it against Boot next year.

Any UK manufacturers shipping goods for a Trade Show to Boot or EU manufacturers to Boat Life will be using a Carnet so you have the added time of Carnet checks at two Customs locations (and the expense of having to hold a bond of 40% of the goods value).

Three weeks is pushing it to take down a stand in Düsseldorf, carnet and clear customs twice and then re-assemble in Birmingham. Many will just go to the bigger show.

If you're inferring that I'm not sensible, can I remind you, as far as I know, more people have been killed by dodgy Chinese heaters than were killed by the storms yesterday.

And as you are able to quantify the risk of these heaters, most of us are capable of reading a weather forecast and making an informed decision on whether it is safe to travel.

As for Covid, we're down to about a 125 deaths a day now. As I understand it, >90% of those people will be un-vaccinated. Of the 12 or so who were vacinnated, the vast majority will have had other serious (usually life limiting) health issues. The chances of a healthy vaccinated person currently dying of Covid really is tiny now. I think most sensible people understand this.

And if going to a boat show to meet some mates isn't essential travel then I don't know what is :)!

If the Cap Fits you wear it. But I am afraid any sensible person would have listened to the warnings and not travelled to something that was not essential. I know my view so for pity's sake have a think about what you did and what could have happened
