Hi All,

I've not owned a boat for a year but I am looking into getting back into it.

I had a Merry Fisher 625 kept in Chichester Marina but now live nearer Littlehampton.

Does anyone else keep a boat on the Arun or in the harbour? Is it a good place to sail to Cowes etc.

I am looking at something like a Sealine S23 or something around that size, slightly bigger than my old boat but hopefully better at sea.

Any advice on sailing from Littlehampton to Cowes? I know to watch around Selsey etc.

Yes mine is at Littlehampton, its ok on the fast flowing Arun, there a a few places to moor up, the Harbour Office have a few, the yacht club allow a limited number of motor boats the Marina further up the river, or even further is the ship and Anchor that have a few places. The Marina are about £320 per metre a year.

There is a very cheap boat for sale there at the moment well looked after not used much in the past 2 yrs. Its about a 26ft or 24ft Sea Ray. I was told he wants silly money for it and it was £20k or £25k I only heard in passing.

To go out your limited by tide 3.5 hrs either side of high, but going to Brighton is good about 50 mins run, or the solent Hasler 50mins going through Boulder & Street.

Hi Phill,

Thank you for replying.

I used to go from Chichester to Cowes quite a bit and the chop was sometimes a bit rough, I expect it would be rougher going round the bill etc. as it is more exposed.

Would be interested in a link to the Searay if there is an advert somewhere.

Many thanks,

Ricky

Hi Ricky
When I first got into mobos we kept our Maxum 2300SCR at Littlehampton in 2003/4. IIRC 2003 was a great summer and we were out on the boat most weekends. The tide was never really a problem if you had enough power that is! Also the draft of a smallish boat helped too. I don't know what the current state of dredging is mind you.
Being a V8 petrol boat we never ventured that far, although did come round to Chichester a few times. In 2004 we got an S28 which was already at Chichester Marina and we've been there ever since. I would say that LH is great if fishing is your thing, or you have a diesel boat and can venture further afield.
The Maxum is actually up for sale and I could also be tempted by an offer. Send me a PM if interested.
Tim
