Boat in build pics (Squadron 78)

That's enough of that EME! No point guessing cos I'm cogitating on a few name candidates and the list changes from day to day. Will let you know asap :-)

Got to be Max Power or Sea Wolf depending on which alias you're using :):):)

I'd like to see it too. Never seen one of these on the road. It goes at night and they have an agreed route with the police and have to take down some signs and streetlamps to get round some of the corners

There have been several occasions when I have been working at Ipswich haven and seen one of these turn up on the low loader, they usually arrive during the afternoon and its quite an operation moving one, the bathing platform has to come on a seperate lorry as my friend who moves them says that if it was fitted to boat then there would be railings to remove to get round certain corners, also they have to have overhead power cables lifted at some part of the journey, very interesting to see.

Could be something the BBC production team would like to document and produce their own "Monster Moves" in Britain :)

What about "Strategic Moves" as a boat name..;-)

The sad thing is that its only a few of us who would find this interesting so would not be big enough for the BBC to make, would rather see this kind of thing than the c*** they show now:)

Fairline have been reading this and kindly just sent me these two pics of a Sq78 being transported by road. Apparently it travels only in daylight, and it does fit under the bridge in this picture. By a few mm. You wouldn't want the tyres on the truck blown up too hard.

So thats a major trunk road they're blocking whilst they debate how much to deflate the tyres by in order to get under the bridge? I bet the drivers stuck behind are deliriously happy that they're being held up so that some rich git's new boat doesn't get scratched:)

Whereas if the owner of that boat had bought a Ferrettizimut and made a traffic jam in Italy they'd be winge-ing that he'd employed foreigners to build his boat. There's just no pleasing some people :)

Does anybody think by the launch date of this fine vessel the post count will be past the 'drift a thread' record in the Lounge?

Would it be easier just to make it a sticky? :)

Brilliant thread JFM, love the pics. Looks like you will have many hours of pleasure on that wonderful er... Ship! :p Looking forward to more pics, it has taken me hours to read through this whole thread! Well worth it though :)

Yeah but thats not how Mr Angry White Van Driver thinks. He knows that the owner of the boat is a) loaded and b) probably a banker so totally deserving of a smack. The fact that said owner has spent a huge wad of his cash keeping several dozen craftsmen from the E Midlands employed for a few months wont ever occur to him:)

Most non boaty people have no perception of what that costs and how much hard work goes into earning the ability to buy something like that at all.
I only bought a 30ft boat and quite a few people I knew would drive past us rather than pop down and have a look, they couldnt understand how I could afford a boat on a nomal income.

Kxobs

Yup, the perception is that because you have a boat, you must be rich but actually its the opposite. Because you have a boat you are not rich:) Lots of boat owners sacrifice other activities in order to afford their boats and people dont see that

I think admillington got some pictures today, including of the engines which are delivered but not yet installed. admillington please feel free to stick the pictures on here, if you get the time. I mean, don't wait to ask me or anything. I'll be offline now till late, as I'm just about to start the journey-a-la-crutch to Gatwick then I have the delights of lovely Easyjet for a while

Couldn't agree more. I only have a little fart of a 25ft sports cruiser (Still more feet than I am in years though :p ) and the general assumption is that I must be loaded cause I have a boat and a hot girliefriend (Beauty in the eye of the beholder etc....)

As you say, it's quite the opposite. I'm going on my first foreign holiday in 12 years this month - If I hadn't a boat (and didn't upgrade with every penny i'd saved) or girliefriend i'd have a lot more cash floating around. No regrets though, i've found my passion.
